Rating: (2 out of 5) George’s Family Restaurant – Oak Park, IL Today’s visit to George’s Family Restaurant was disappointing, to say the least. While the restaurant wasn’t packed, it took about 15 minutes just to get a waitress to our table. We overlooked the delay because we were in a good mood—celebrating some happy family news—and wanted to enjoy a moment together. Unfortunately, what followed echoed many of the negative reviews we wish we had read beforehand. We ordered a kid’s meal and a basic pancake breakfast—something that should’ve cost about $26 total. Instead, we were charged nearly $37, and with tip, it landed around $45–$46 for a meal for two kids. The food itself was average—not terrible, but definitely not worth that price tag. Where things really went left was at the register. The older man who rang us up never reviewed the bill or gave a total—just swiped and moved on. When I politely asked for a breakdown, the woman who stepped in grew visibly angry, shaking while responding and dismissive about the overcharges. When I pointed out that we were charged for a drink that wasn’t ordered (my child only had water), she said “nobody told me that” and brushed it off. When I asked for a corrected bill, she loudly said, “Just take it out of my tip,” clearly irritated that I was questioning the charges—despite the fact that I had tipped generously. It was an unnecessarily hostile interaction, especially in front of my kids. I remained calm and respectful the entire time, but the energy from the staff was anything but welcoming. It felt like if you’re not a known regular, you’re treated with suspicion or disregard. This experience left a sour taste—no pun intended. I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to out-of-towners or anyone who values customer service. If you do decide to visit, double-check your bill. There’s too much confusion and too little accountability here.

This diner has so much to offer with an extensive menu, diverse fresh food and quick service.. This year upgrading his menu with gluten-free options serving organic dark roast coffee with options for the lactose intolerant carrying oat milk... But one of my pet peeves at a lot of breakfast places is frozen hash browns. I can't stand it. Georgei s serving up quality, with a hard labor real hash browns.. 40 years in business and you can tell.. between the quality of the food and efficiency of the restaurant. And let me tell you how fast that kitchen is. I've never been at a place where you sit. Your order is taken and for the most part in less than 5 minutes your food is out.... I highly recommend this place. Although open 7:00 to 3:00. He has lunch options. The best soups. I've had split peas on Wednesday Navy Bean on Thursday. Beef barley cream of chicken Thursdays and Sundays and if you are a soup connoisseur you can order soup at 7:00 in the morning. That's my type of restaurant.. I truly love this place

George's Family Restaurant is the perfect place for breakfast or lunch. Truly one of the last real diner's in Oak Park. Amazing cooks, attentive staff and friendly greetings at the door. Menu is filled with breakfast favorites from simple toast and eggs to fruit based crepes. It's easy to pass over mainstays like waffles, corned beef hash and my favorite; 3 eggs, French toast and sausage. Kids will love the generous whipped cream and smiley pancakes. Adults will enjoy endless cups of coffee and hustling waitstaff. Saturday and Sunday's are busy so get there before 10 am to avoid the crowd. Weekend brunch, weekday lunch or just need to do work is no problem at George's Family Restaurant.

So I just ordered a to-go order from this place we showed up about 36 minutes after we placed the order they told us 15 minutes when we got there we sat outside waiting for 20 minutes cuz it still was not ready. When I went in I stood in a long line just for them to tell me the pickup area is in a different spot there was no sign or anything to explain this. After telling them that we waited a whole hour for this order and I needed a discount I was told to speak to the manager the manager insisted that a group of boys come in front of me to pay for their tab which was the first issue. Second thing as I'm telling the manager we have waited for an hour so I need a discount he was about to dismiss me until I explained to him no me and my family have been sitting in the car waiting on our food. And on top of this some random waitress decided to get in my conversation with the manager basically saying well if I have a problem with it I don't need to return mind you her reasoning is there was a party of 30 which had nothing to do with me as a to go customer. They should have closed to go orders down while they handled that big group or they should have said it was going to be a 30 or more minute wait versus 15 minutes which is what I was told an hour ago when I placed my order. Unacceptable customer service and I will make sure that nobody I know will go to...

I'll preface this by saying I'm a patron of George's for decades and haven't been put off by ANYTHING until today.

At the end of our meal, we noticed the bill was a few dollars higher than the menu prices. We didn't want to bring it up to our waitress because it's not her issue- so we went to the cashier which happened to be the manager(?) When we brought it up with him, he said it was an upcharge because "the price of eggs are so damn high" now. I said it would have been nice if we knew that's what it was, and he said there was a sign at the door. So are a bazillion flyers. I suggested a little note on the menu, and he said "im not gonna change all my menues for one tiny thing" I said, fair, how about a disclaimer at the begining of serice about the upcharge? He said "I can take it off the bill if it bothers you so much, its not the waitresses fault"

The bill isn't the issue anymore as soon as we heard it was about the eggs. Everyone knows the egg situation sucks. The issue is no disclaimer before service so we don't mistake it for a typo. And mainly, not being a condescending prick about it.

(and ofc we tipped because its not the waitress issue)

We'll probably still go back, but that interaction left a sour taste about...
