I visited this shop recently with my adult autistic son and my 2-year-old, and while there were some positives, I left feeling embarrassed and a little hurt.
The young woman at the front desk was truly exceptional. She was kind, patient, and incredibly helpful while explaining the menu. Navigating public spaces with my son can be a bit unpredictable, but she handled everything with genuine warmth and understanding.
The discomfort came when it was time to pay. Our total was just over $15, and I only had a $50 bill. The cashier politely asked if I had anything smaller, and when I said no, she called the owner to get approval. His response, loud enough for everyone to hear was: “It better be real, or you’re paying for it.”
That comment left me feeling humiliated in front of the other customers. As a Mexican family visiting Oak Park, we already felt a bit out of place, and the stares we received only deepened that discomfort.
I understand caution with larger bills in today’s world, but there are more respectful and professional ways to handle it especially when you have customers standing right there.
Despite that moment, I still left a $10 tip because the cashier truly deserves recognition for her kindness and professionalism. I just wish the same care had been extended...
Read moreWhat a great addition to the community and perfect location! For many years, I have wanted some place to take my kids after going to the pool or camp at Ridgeland Common. Three Spoons was clean, and the staff members were welcoming. My daughter got a sundae, and I got The Jimmy Boy, which is a Mix-In with chocolate, peanut butter, and peanut butter cups. The Jimmy Boy really hit the spot after a long weekend day of driving my kids to their practices! There are several things that I want to try on the menu, so I will be back very soon. This location is very convenient to the high school, so for any families traveling to OPRF for games.....you should try this ice cream shop! Finally, it means a lot that this is locally owned and operated...and they get a huge thumbs up from me for picking a business name to celebrate their three daughters. Yay-Three Spoons. Glad to have you...
Read moreOak Park was in need of a new small business ice cream shop and the Three Spoons is just the place! The strawberry flavor blast was better than I expected! It wasn't just a little drizzle of syrup on top, but a nice strawberry flavor all throughout the ice cream! The girls even made my husband a custom butterscotch malt, which brought him back to sharing butterscotch candies with his grandma. We will definitely be back to visit this sweet family and their new...
