Las Palmas Super Burrito — Restaurant in Oakland

EDIT: August 11, 2024. AVOID - THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF. Came here again tonight after a few months and man, I'm a little livid about my most recent visit. I ordered a wet (ground beef) burrito with everything, and a steak and shrimp wet burrito with everything. Both burritos are bone dry, not any sauce whatsoever, but what really got me was how much i got ripped off on "tax" this time. The last time i had the same order, it was $34 and change ($17.75 for one, 13.something for the other) plus sales tax. This time it was a WHOPPING $45 and change. The Alameda sales tax is 10.25%. So say i rounded both up to $18 and $14 respectively - that comes out loosely as $36 with sales tax, rounding up. Even generously rounding up on prices, I was ripped off nearly $10. Of course the receipt isn't itemized at all. Screw that. That's not okay. Even if they had given me what I requested, it still wouldn't have been okay.

OLD REVIEW: As someone who spent most of their life in Los Angeles, I am very picky when it comes to Mexican food. I give Las Palmas a "Solid" rating. Their steak and shrimp wet super burrito was damn good, and also about as big as a swaddled baby - I wish i was joking, this thing was HUGE. And also a very reasonable price at about $18. They were very accommodating in not adding rice (Sorry Mission fans, the SoCal history runs deep with me, no rice on my burritos!)

There could be a few more improvements to tip it into god tier, like little more seasoning with the carne asada; needs some cilantro and lime juice. Whip queso fresco with sour cream, use that to layer the bottom of the tortilla with instead of just sour cream, etc - Please, put down la chancla - I mean the absolute best and I'm sure there's some people who could truly offer better suggestions, but those are just what comes off the...

One of my favorite places for Fried Fish, I also loved their Gumbo in the past but I haven't had any recently. The Burritos and Tacos are Great, especially the seafood versions as that's what I hear from my friends and family. Oh, and you can't not get the Nachos at least once or twice a month, they're Beautiful with Healthy ingredients and a Hefty serving, definitely enough to feed 2 normal adults or 3 small children. I've personally been a customer for over 25 years and can honestly say that it's so rare for me to have any problems or issues with my orders (which are usually huge) that I can't actually recall any. Las Palmas once upon a time was awesome, great fish, shrimp and burritos. I had not been to this location in a long time although I had heard negative reviews I decided to check it out ; to make my own decision on the food and to come to my own conclusion. I can say I was so disappointed to find the reviews had merit. The fish was dry, unseasoned, I had to throw the fish and shrimp out. My family refused to eat it. The fish and shrimp tasted like old, old, old grease and it didn't smell fresh. Even the bread was horrible. I won't be going back to any location the quality is no more and I was sad it had been several years since I had been to Las Palmas on fruitvale.
