Macky's Bayside Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Ocean City

We (my Husband-mid 60s, my Mother-82 and myself-late 50's) had a late lunch on Friday, July 28, 2020 with my 70 year old Aunt and 85 year old Uncle. And I note the ages because there was a lack of service based on our many years of experience dinning out. Plus I was a server, and bartender when I was young - and the customer is why you are there. I really believe it's because the staffers have no experience or their parents didn't teach them the importance of doing a good job, except possibly our waiter - he was fantastic.

The waiter was great, but the hostesses and the server's helper were less than egger to do their jobs. I asked for a cool spot, Macky's doesn't have air-conditioning. Most places at the beach at least has the option, but not here. I told the hostess that we had 2 more people coming and they accommodated us with a table for 6. That was good, but it wasn't cool. When my Aunt and Uncle arrived, the hostess told them to wander around to find us. That was bad service. There were several staffers behind the counter and this place was not slammed with people, so I can't understand why at least one of them didn't take the time to show my Aunt and Uncle to our table. Thank goodness for modern technology, because my Aunt contacted me via phone and as soon as I saw her text, I went to her immediately.

The food was good, but expensive for what it was. According to my Aunt the alcoholic drink was good. My Aunt ordered additional items and the server's helper never brought it (even when we asked him to) - the helper seemed unhappy and irritated. We explained to the waiter that we were waiting on these items, and he brought it. Our waiter was a lovely young man and he really tried to push the limits to give good service.

Servers & helpers, please do not hand plates to customer; please don't pass items to other at the table over other people plates. There are several good reasons for this: 1. It's bad service - serve from the side of the person, if you can't reach them, then Macky's needs arrange the tables and seating to allow for this; 2. you need to avoid food cross contamination - I have food allergies and I do everything I can to ensure I don't come in contact with anything that can cause a reaction; 3. it's unsanitary to reach across plates - I don't want to have any of your body in my food. Additionally, make sure that when a client ask for something that they are paying for, that it is brought immediately and don't scowl & never return, and unless the customer says no, make sure the customer's drinks are always filled.

My family and I have been going to Macky’s for years and have never been disappointed with the service or our experience, until tonight due to a rude waitress and arrogant people. As we were waiting to be seated, four men were standing behind my family and I making very racial slurs and have clearly already been drinking. We were then seated and away from these men. My boyfriend and I both have celiac disease and stick to gluten free diets. Macky’s does have very limited gluten free options which was disappointing but not the issue. I have asked our waitress Loui if the piña colada mix was gluten free, as most syrups are not, and in response she told me that she isn’t sure but, gluten consists of wheat, barley, and rye which is in neither pineapple or coconut. I was very taken back by her response. I know what gluten consists of and was confused why she couldn’t ask the bartender if the mix contains gluten. Five minutes into being seated, the four very loud men who were behind us previously were sat behind us. They then started heavily cursing and saying very racial slurs. An argument between two of the men broke out and started to escalate. All of the tables in our section very clearly heard what was going on and looked very disturbed and uncomfortable as we were too. Our waitress, Loui, continued to serve this table alcohol completely ignoring what was going on. We finally had enough and told our waitress to move our table due to the situation which she then told us she had “no idea” this was happening. As we were grabbing our drinks, the two men began to physically fight. We grabbed all our stuff and told the manager and the waitress to void our food as we were leaving. I felt as though we shouldn’t have to pay for our drinks due to the situation but that wasn’t the case. We paid for everything and left. I am disgusted. The situation should have been taken care of before it was too late. To make matters worse, this was my sisters birthday dinner. Macky’s you have lost very loyal customers. We will never...

The service was great and quick. The atmosphere on the waterfront is amazing. The food and the drinks need work.

At least the service was good. Went there last night with my wife for a small appetizer and drinks before turning in for the night. When we pulled up, the parking lot was empty so we thought we had lucked out.

The hostess was fast and friendly and got us seated right away. Within a minute the waiter was there to take our drink orders and read the specials. I ordered an orange crush and my wife ordered a frozen drink. The menu was very limited and revolved around seafood. I ordered the buffalo shrimp and she ordered the scallops with crab meat.

The drinks came out quickly, but were served in 8oz plastic cups. The orange crush tasted like ice, with a splash of orange juice and cheap alcohol. I could only drink half because the taste was so bad. The frozen drink was fine, but also served in an 8 oz. plastic cup. I mention the cup sizes because in the other establishments we've been to in the area, the drinks were served in 16oz plastic cups for a similar price and tasted fine.

The food was served quickly. There were three scallops on a shell with crab meat that tasted good. The buffalo shrimp was served cold with four shrimp with dipping sauce and celery. I have no idea why a cook would think that cold buffalo shrimp would be appealing. We finished our drinks and food. The check came out and was processed quickly.

I give it two stars because of the service and atmosphere, which was amazing. The rest could use work. While I don't mind a limited menu, the choices were a little pricey for the serving size, but that could be forgiven if they tasted great and were served properly.
