This place was recommended and I loved the fact that they grilled the steaks. I was a little concerned the place was a "hole in the wall" kind of place when I first drove up but my feelings were put at ease upon entering and smelling the smoked flavor in the air.
The menu was a little hard to read as it was black writing on a brown paper bag in a dimly lit dining area, but my date and I managed to order two 13 ounce ribeye steaks, some fried mushrooms, and a couple of cokes since they do not serve alcohol (a mild bummer, but we knew that going in).
The service was a little slow considering the place was not very crowded but not so bad that it bothered us. We received our bread, appetizer, and soup all at the same time. A bit unconventional, but we made it work.
The fried mushrooms were well flavored and the highlight of the meal. The potato soup that the waitress raved over was the consistency of applesauce and lacked flavor outside a mild taste of chives. The $25 steaks were simply not good. A good steak simply should not require sauce, and a $25 steak plate should be a good one not requiring sauce. These were not good. The cuts of meat looked great. They had good fat content but they were rush cooked making them tough and on top of that, they were overcooked making them dry. When you order a medium rare steak, you should get a medium rare steak, or medium at worse. There idea of medium rare was closer to a medium well.
The waitress asked how our steaks were after we had both taken maybe 2-3 bites and I told her they were overcooked and dry. She said "oh, I am sorry about that" and asked if we would like our drinks refilled.
Neither of us ate more than half our dinner. We left, without taking them with us, paying a $65 dinner bill, and came home feeling bad about our dinner choice.
The only thing giving this place a 2 star rating instead of 1 star was the fact that the dinner rolls were...
Read moreUm, I'm starting to feel as if this is deja vu, because I remember writing a review for Cheryl's Steakhouse shortly after I dined there. I wonder if these reviews are culled from time to time. Oh well, here goes again. I'll try to make this short and sweet.
I was not impressed with my potato soup as it was flavorless and cold when it was brought out. I asked for it to be heated up in the microwave and the waitress obliged, but when it came back out the soup was warm but the potato chunks were still cold when I bit into them. As I mentioned before, the soup was flavorless and the texture wasn't good. It was like mashed potatoes in water. Yuck. The waitress offered me something else since I didn't like the soup. I got the fries which were pretty good.
I believe I had the Steakhouse burger which came with a nice, big piece of meat, sauteed onions and mushrooms, cheese, and bacon. There was also raw onion, lettuce, and tomato on the side for the burger. The flavor was pretty good, although I didn't get that smokey flavor that everyone else at the table said they'd gotten in their steaks.
I guess that's about all I have to say about Cheryl's. Overall, I think Cheryl's is overpriced (my burger was about $12, I think) and because the food is not extraordinarily tasty, I certainly wouldn't make this my choice of dining...
Read moreThe atmosphere was good. Our waitress spent too much time with a table across from us. I ordered a ribeye with baked potato and a salad. The steak was flat and had no real body to it. It was supposed to be medium rare, to be honest, I'm not sure how they can do medium rare and tell the difference between and well done because to me it was well done. In this case, I didn't want to upset my sister and her husband with my complaint since this is this their favorite steak place. Their steak was nice and thick, tho. Salad was good, potato was great, the mushrooms on the side left me little to write home about, dry and no juice. I tried to liven it up at home the next morning. It was not budging. So overall, on the meal, the salad and the baked potato won! I will try the steak again and was clearly my favorite steak place to go. We all have our moments and know that that was probably one of them. I am glad people aren't that way with each other, we would be friendless and that is why I don't give up so easily. CHERYL'S, I Will be back to try you again!!! I will see you when I see you!!
My transaction number was 200002 on Sept 1,...
