The ice cream was delicious. A great selection of various flavors of ice cream and snow balls (as well as mixed variations). The only reasons that I have for rating Bonkey's 4 stars out of 5 include: Not alot of travel containers. We purchased a selection of ice cream and snow balls for a group of people and they only had covers for the ice cream & milk shake and not the snow balls. Not a big deal, but an annoyance when traveling back to our place. Better use of their shaded areas. They had a shaded area to sit and a shaded area along the side of the building (that had a window to take orders). They chose to use the side of the building that had no shade, although their were two windows they chose to only use one for taking orders. There happened to be a line of people who were all vocalizing how hot it was outside (100-101 degrees depending on your source of information). I know what some people may say about this particular "complaint", but I hope they can use this to improve their operation. I truly enjoyed the ice cream and will go back, better prepared than I was today. So hopefully others will be better prepared and/or Bonkey's makes...
Read moreOkay, so, working at Bonkey’s, you see behind the scenes, right? Except, joke’s on you, because there are no scenes. You can’t even go inside! It’s all facade, a cute little window to take your order, but behind it? A sweaty, AC-less hellhole where the ice cream is slowly melting and so are we.
The ice cream itself? It’s fine, I guess. But fine isn’t what people are paying for. They’re paying for the idea of artisanal ice cream, and what they’re getting is freezer-burned disappointment served by someone who’s actively overheating.
And the flavors? Don’t even get me started. They try to be all fancy with lavender-honey-pistachio swirl or whatever, but half the time it just tastes like perfume mixed with regret. Plus, watching people try to pronounce the names while I’m dripping sweat is its own special kind of torture.
Honestly, save your money. Go to the grocery store, buy a tub of something familiar, and crank up your AC. Your taste buds (and my sanity)...
Read moreBonkey's was delicious, the 3 flavors my wife and I tried were dirty, cotton candy, and a pineapple mango flavor. They were all delicious. The atmosphere of this ice cream "shack" near the woods was fun and calmer than if you get ice cream in a busier part of town. There were benches to sit on and eat, and ample shade.
My only complaint for Bonkey's was the service. The staff wasn't rude, but they weren't very friendly either. We went in the middle of the day, we were the only two people there, my wife is extremely indecisive and normally gets samples. However, the worker unapologetically informed us they don't do samples. Which I thought was silly, especially since there was no one else there, not like we were...
