Honey's was a great vacation breakfast spot with mostly pros and a couple cons. (And, disclaimer, they have a full menu that looks very good for classic diner fare--baskets, salads, sandwiches and wraps--but we only went twice for breakfast.)
We LOVED the latka--never quite had a pie slice of crispy potato, but it is a must-have for breakfast and worth going back for. Just the right amount of salt and seasoning, with perfectly crisp edges. Their omelets were super hearty and tasty and the blueberry pancakes were SO good they actually did make us go back for breakfast again in the same week. They were light, fluffy, and chock-full of blueberries, and I'm not a fan of crispy edges and these were soft all around--really good! My husband also really enjoyed his Nitro coffee with hazelnut and caramel.
There's some outside seating which was nice on a cooler day, but be aware, if it's breezy you will get some fountain spray on you. Inside is pretty spacious, lots of diner-like seating, and can get a little loud during busy times but was fine, clean and comfortable overall.
It loses some points for its regular coffee, though, which was just...terrible. Absolutely almost undrinkable. I've had great diner coffee and detestable diner coffee and I'm so sorry to say this ranks with the worst of them. Bitter, "old"-tasting, just nothing really redeemable about it. And as a place with a pretty fantastic breakfast menu, to have awful coffee is just such a disappointment.
The wait time was also a little concerning our second time there, but to be fair they did have several tables of 6 going and it was admittedly a rush time of day. While we did get our drinks promptly, we waited about 35 minutes for our food. Our waiter seemed confused at times, asking us if he could "get us anything else" when all we had were full drinks...We kept saying, "Yes, can you update us on our order status," but he never responded to that, so I dunno. It was odd.
Ultimately our food came out piping hot and very good, pancakes as fluffy as ever, so just try to go at less busy times and you'll have a very good experience there. We will certainly be back next time we're...
Read moreMy wife and I live in the area and have visited this establishment 3 times since the new owner took over. First off, the atmosphere is great. You are sitting inside an old trai station or actual train cars. So the place has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, that is where the positives end. The first we were here I would give the place 4-5 stars: Good food, great service, great atmosphere. The second time we ate here the good was average at best. Latka was raw on one side. Kielbasa in omlette tasted like cheap supermarket variety. Today we tried one more time. When we arrived the car we were seated in was basically 20% full. The waitress came to our table quickly and took our drinks. Our drinks arrived in a few minutes and she took our order. After she took the order the car filled up rather quickly. We waited about 20 minutes and noticed that one table seated after us got their food. 10 more minutes and then another table got their food. My wife then asked the waitress what was happening and she said she'd check. A few minutes later she came out and said "2-3 minutes. The back is messed up.". My wife basically said we will give them 10. After waiting for 55 minutes after we arrived we got up a left. As we were paying the bill for the drinks the waitress apologized again. Never offered to discount or to get the owner or manager. Never again. We are done. What a shame because with that venue there is so much potential. Let us know when you get your...
Read moreStaff were very nice and we loved the train cars. It's a unique idea that kids and adults will love. We had a dog so they kindly let us sit out on the porch, which was also very enjoyable with the breeze and sound of the fountain. They even put out a bowl of water for our pooch.
Gave it three stars because the dishes were mixed. Mine was terrible - ordered the pan-seared jumbo shrimp with a side of veggies (green beans and pickled beets - everything else was different versions of carbs). You get about 6 shrimp for $22. They were tough, tasted fishy and otherwise had no flavor (and definitely didn't appear to be pan seared at all). The green beans must have been steamed with no seasoning and the pickled beets didn't have any of the earthy yumminess that makes them otherwise so delicious or even the briny tang of a good pickled anything really. They were nice though and comped us the shrimp.
My salad was a usual garden salad and very fresh with flavorful cherry tomatoes. The kids chicken tenders and fries were standard. The Reuben was also what you'd expect and was a filling sandwich. So in short, a cute place to go for what you'd expect for beach food with good service, just don't...
