Thai Food + Japanese Food, can it get any better?!
Being new to the North County San Diego area, I relied on Yelp for advice on where to have lunch. Of course, my usual self wanted Thai food and when I saw Cafe de Thai Cuisine AND Sushi, I was sold!
I came in starving and wanted to try both the Thai and Japanese food. The Thai & Sushi Combo Bento ($10.25) was perfect to order! I got the green chicken curry with a California roll. The bento includes soup (I believe it was Tom Yum), salad, and vegetable tempura (zucchini, onion, broccoli, and carrot). The food served was definitely more than enough for one person but was delicious! I think I finished it all.
In my opinion nothing can beat the curry my parents make, so I'm always hesitant when going out and ordering curry. It's usually too thick or too coconut-y. This one doesn't beat my parents' but I thought it was very good and that says a lot. It comes with green beans, bell peppers, and bamboo shoots inside. As far as the Japanese food, the vegetable tempura was crisp and the California roll satisfied my sushi craving (you really can't mess up a California roll).
The restaurant is pretty big. They serve alcoholic beverages and have a sushi bar. I'll definitely be back and maybe try some sushi rolls next time! P.S. My server was really nice and...
Read moreTL;DR Good variety and selection, where is the spicy at?! Ambience is better at the sushi bar, so don't bring your curry eating friends like me :)
My family enjoys the sushi, but when they bring me they don't get to sit at the sushi bar and enjoy that experience bc I don't order sushi. I got a curry with a spicy level 9 but it wasn't spicy. The sushi eaters of my group enjoyed their meal. One noted the wasabi wasn't very spicy. The dining area was clean and quiet. The music was enjoyable for a "born in the 80s". Forgot to check but I think it was Coca Cola products. We went on a Friday, parking was getting pretty full, but no wait to get seated at around 7:30 to 8:00 in the evening. Food was fast but still gave us time to enjoy our plates to share before we got our entree. Didn't have to wait for our check but wasn't rushed to leave. Is this review two hundred words yet? My kid had dessert, they were out of a few options of ice cream. The imported beer selection was pretty good and decently priced. The outside parking lot smelled awful like sewage, but had nothing to do with the restaurant as far as I could tell. No television inside which is a plus for me when dining with the easily...
Read moreUnfortunately I have to update my previous review because Cafe De Thai continues to go down in quality. Today at lunch we were among the first to arrive so they were not busy. We placed our order and then waited... and waited. I kept wondering why they did not bring the salad and soup like they always do with the drinks. After some time they brought my entree, so I asked what about the soup and salad and was told they were coming. I put the entree off to the side since like most people I prefer to eat the soup/salad first. When it did come the salad had about enough dressing to cover one piece of lettuce. The soup was good but boiling hot. When I finally got to my entree it had cooled off and I noticed it seemed underdone. No grill marks on the chicken, the broccoli was so hard it could hardly be eaten and the noodles were totally undercooked. Not once did anyone come by to ask how our food was or if we needed anything. Finally we flagged the server and asked for boxes. She did not ask how our meal was or anything else, so just a complete service failure. This used to be one of our fav Thai restaurants but I doubt if we will go back...
