Very rarely do I get late night Mexican food and not out siracha on it (I put siracha on anything even my pizza and eggs). I woke up so hungry (I work overnights and today is my night off) I wanted food immediately. I had just recently moved here from Escondido, and there are only 3 or 4 24-hour Mexican restaurants around me and I tried them all so I was interested in trying the last one I hadn't had yet, Diego's, a little hole in the wall in a sketchy yellow building, so I knew it had to be good... And holy balls... This is hands for the best 24-hour restaurant I have been to in San Diego county (I'm from Yuma so I am very picky with my Mexican food and the quality and flavor of carne asada). I decided on a fluke to taste the salsa first and boy, am I glad I did. There is this one holy Grail of a Mexican restaurant called Cortez in Bonsall way the heck away from me that has coveted salsa. Diego's salsa, is the exact equivalent... Spicy, salty, flavorful and voluptuous (however you spell that, my smart phone isn't being very smart right now). I got rolled tacos and asked for a surf and turf burrito (I'm not sure why, I usually only eat carne asada burritos) and dayuuuum they were good. The helping are huge and we'll worth the price. The jaimaca was handmade, in fact you could tell everything was made from scratch, and even the cheese was hand shredded - the chef definitely whispers his hopes and dreams into the food before sending it out the window. Next time I go I plan on the sopes because I rarely find those on the menu here in San Diego county. I highly recommend to anyone ever that likes Mexican food, you will take one bite and think that you died and are currently in heaven, like you will be so confused you might need to go to mental health... Like... This Mexican food is "true level" nothing here compares (excpet maybe Cortez but that's such a long drive from me and they aren't 24 hours...).
PS I forgot to take a picture of my food but here is a picture of my friends carne...
Read moreI'm not going to lie my breakfast was bomb but the customer service absolutely horrendous! We went through the drive thru and the lady on the intercom didn't respond to us until we finally gave up and said our order and she instantly told us very aggressively to move up to the window. When we got to the window she already seem to be in a bad mood. They charged us $5 extra for 2 breakfast burritos with everything on it. While we were waiting for the food she would come back and forth to the window and kept constantly slamming it shut. When we got our food she only gave us 1 salsa in total and when we asked for more she said, "HUH?!" I found that really disrespectful especially with the tone she was using. When we asked for it we didn't think she heard us so we asked again for a knife and she said, "yeah! You already asked me!" And then at the end when she handed the bag to us she yelled "BYE!" And SLAMMED the window shut. Like I said earlier the food was pretty good, I was just really disappointed in the customer service. So if you want food in your stomach but be put in a bad mood, totally come to Diego's...
Read moreThis place has been on my radar for a long time as an Oceanside great, but my last visit was truly disappointing. We ordered a carnitas plate, Carne asada burrito and 3 rolled tacos with guac. The reasoning behind the poor score was due to the amount of carnitas they gave for a $15 plate. Now I understand it's a decently priced plate considering inflation, but it was literally less than 3 to 4oz of meat total. It's a shame because I use to go to this place all the time, but with them shorting people on portions I would rather go to Delibertos down the road on Mission Ave and get 5 times the amount of meat for the same price. The second star was because Diegos still has great salsas. It's just a shame that our family won't go back to give Diegos another shot especially since I've come to this place for the...
