I parked there for a walk on the beach, but near high tide there isn't a beach, just piles of large river-rock-like pebbles. I recommend coming near low tide. There were several spaces in the lot that Friday near 11am. The cafe also had a lot of customers. I took a walk up the path to see the murals on the underpass and to glance at the sewer treatment area that will be converted to wetlands and more park over the next few months. The article I read said that the rail trail would pass through this area. If it does, they will need a bridge. There is a climbing structure in the far corner of the park, but I ignored it because my kids are grown. There is a large grassy area, too, but the park did not feel as clean as the suburban parks near my home -- perhaps because there was an older woman with a hacking cough walking around the park while I was there. The park parking lot is very convenient for visiting that stretch of beach and it has a public restroom so I might go back, but this time I drove down to Magee Park in Carlsbad which also had parking and a public restroom, and several clean concrete picnic tables with trash and recycling bins and landscape that made me feel clean, happy and healthy. However I had to go down a LOT of stairs to reach the beach. Once I reached the beach I found a wife stretch of sand even at high tide. I walked to St. Malo Beach following a pod of dolphins that were swimming and splashing and surfing over and under the breakers. It was a...
Read moreLiving so close to the coast is such blessing! This park is one of the kids favorite, the beach across the street was also our " hidden " spot to goto when my children were younger. With the community developing so much to can be very busy on the weekends. Many events happen so its crowded. The beach is all rocks now vs sand sadly ( mother nature and the sand erosion) the tourist are so so when visiting, some can be very sweet and nice to the townspeople ( the area is all AirB&Bs) but some are just not friendly at all. My son feeds the squirrels by the lagoon in the basketball area..they are extremely friendly and always looking to get some Nuts, and seeds. ( people feed them cereal, pretzels and bread...) please dont visit the park and feed them this. ( same goes for Ducks in the area) There can be homeless people chilling at the park or beach or both, there is plenty to do in the area to keep way or watch their movement. This park is over all an amazing. Never tried the little cafe but hope to soon! I...
Read moreThis is the place to just kick it. It's Oceansides best kept secret. If you wanna just be alone or relax quietly with someone this is a small slice of cake just for that. The park across the street is clean and family friendly. It has a small mom and pop place to eat but I believe their only open in the mornings but I could be wrong. I like how they didnt take away or try and make nature work around them but they worked around it. It has pretty little lake that becomes a small channel to the ocean when its high tide, and plenty of large shade trees. There are restrooms there and plenty of quiet and sounds of the ocean rolling on the beach across the street. It sits in between housing so please be respectful of the residents there. One bad apple and we all loose out. The rocks there on the beach, or maybe I should say, boulders, haha, seem to invite photographers from all over. Some taking family pictures while others capture the sunrise. You wont regret...
