ROBATA-X SUSHI & IZAKAYA — Restaurant in Oceanside

Today, October 17, 2025 was a soft opening of this brand new all you can eat elevated sushi restaurant.

After speaking with the staff, I found out that the same MasterChef that brought Love Boat Sushi to Oceanside and Blue Ocean to Carlsbad, is in charge of bringing this unique experience to us.

Robata-X Sushi & Izakaya provides a premium sushi dining experience with high-quality ingredients, the option for à la cart, an appetizer menu and their best value is All-You-Can-Eat.

When it comes to dining-in options, Robata-X has plenty of seating inside, with high-tables and booths available and they even extended the dining area to an outdoor patio and the front of the restaurant as well.

Their service still has room for improvement and I feel that they may need to hire more staff during the day, but they seem to have enough for the evenings and weekend. The service staff are friendly and helpful, but their overall menu system needs a lot of improvement.

Currently, they have an extensive menu with over 50+ items and there's no descriptions of the individual items or photos either.

So far, everything looks great and they will have a small cooler upfront for sushi orders to go.

For sushi rolls, I enjoyed the Camp Pendleton, Imperial Beach, Torrey Pines & Robata-X Toro. I also liked the Korean BBQ ribs & the crispy eggplant in a sweet soy glaze.

The only dish I really didn't care for was their chicken karaage, which was more like Panda Express Orange Chicken without the sauce. But I'm not too judgmental, because their specialty is seafood and NOT chicken.

I also don't prefer their music playlist of choice. It's currently a station with cover songs of the 80's & 90's playing rather loud and while I LOVE that genre of music, I would rather some gentle Japanese ambiance vibes.

Overall, I'm very happy with their opening and although I know they're improving, they're off to a great start and have a fantastic concept!

10/28/25 Well, my wife and I never got out of the starting gate. We arrived for lunch about 1:30pm and went inside. First impression was it was really quiet inside. We were greeted by the sushi chefs working behind the counter. There was no one at the hostess stand so we waited for a couple of minutes. When no one came to the front the sushi chefs then motioned for us to sit at any table. This is where we sat and waited. About 5-6 minutes later another family showed up and went through the same procedure we just did and eventually Sat in the table next to us. The sushi chefs started calling out loudly to the back of the restaurant for someone to come help and a few minutes later a waitress came from the back. The sushi chefs said the couple of 2 came first then the family came in after. The waitress walked by our table and said she'd be back with water and plates. She then went to the family that came in after us and did the same. A few minutes later she returned but went to the family next to us, left water and plates and started talking food with them eventually taking a partial order. She walked by our table again and I asked if she knew we were sitting first and she said yes. I said ok and I said I'm just trying to wrap my head around why. She then says flippantly "I get it and that she'd be back". At that point my wife and I thought it best just to find lunch in another spot. Kinda sad too because honestly we like to try newer things and support the local businesses. I'm not saying we are giving up on this spot, but I believe they are still working out the details being so new. I'm sure they get things ironed out. A quick side note. Oside local here, thrilled to give this review. Atmosphere was warm, welcoming and clean. Whether it’s date night or quality time with the family Robata-X is an excellent choice. John, our waiter was friendly & very attentive along with the rest of the staff who continuously monitored the tables to remove empty dishes, refill drinks, answer questions regarding menu options and place additional orders from the AYCE menu. We arrived for dinner about 6:30p on a Saturday night and were seated immediately, with drinks served within 5 min and appetizers quickly afterwards. I’ve a feeling that when word spreads there’ll be a line so I highly recommend taking advantage of their newly opened doors while you can. We enjoyed the food immensely, from the gyoza to the sushi rolls that melted in our mouths it was a flavorful experience. Well worth the price. The Black Dragon Roll was our favorite. I think that the changes made to the service since the soft opening of the restaurant over a week ago have made an impact because our entire experience was excellent and we have nothing but positive feedback.
