I found this restaurant after doing a search for a good soup location near me on Yelp. Based on their online pictures and the description that they had their menus we decided to give it a shot. The restaurant itself is a little dated inside at this location I could probably use an update, but the service was excellent. Our server, Julia, was quick to recommend different dishes after finding out it was our first time there. The food did not quite match the pictures that were on the internet but that's to be expected since they're usually professionally done. TooJay's describes itself as Jewish comfort food and I would say that it definitely lived up to that description. It was all stuff that you would expect to receive at a visit to grandma or an aunt or an uncle that really like to cook. I had the reuben and the wife had the turkey cranberry griller. I also ordered a couple of things to take with me. I had the Tuscan Chicken sandwich as well as a shepherd's pie to go. To top it off I had the pumpkin spice cake and the wife had the banana dream cake. All of the food was good although I thought the shepherd's pie could have used a little more seasoning. The turkey griller was just okay as well. probably my favorite thing of the night was the Tuscan Chicken sandwich. A little messy and hard to eat as it's lit a part each time you took a bite, but it tasted great. Based on what we thought versus what we saw on the internet I've decided to give A review of three. Which is average. Neither good nor bad, but the service was excellent. My rating system consists of a 3-star being exactly what you expected and neither good nor bad. A 4 means something was extra special and a 5 means you were blown away. A 2 star rating was disappointing and a 1-star rating is terrible

This was the second location we have been to and the food was fantastic. Our server, Jacob did an excellent job and was attentive. I had the 2 all beef hot dogs with pastrami and cole slaw and it was very tasty. I had hoped that it would look more like the picture in the menu but no such luck. It was made with Nathan's hot dogs which was a different brand than shown. In the pic there was a pile of pastrami on them while mine had only a couple scrawny pieces each which was probably better for me. It came with an extra side of slaw and a pickle. Very filling. My kids had the Shepard's pie, amazing for what is actually ranchers pie as it is made with beef not lamb, and the other had the fish and chips. Both were large portions that came with soup or salad. We had fresh rye bread with butter. For desserts split the killer chocolate cake and the strawberry cheesecake. We recommend them both as they make great desserts and pastries. The only down side to our experience was the manager who was nice, but when he brought the desserts he asked if we needed another fork and I said yes please. He went to get it and never returned. We ended up taking a set of silverware from another table.

"Gourmet delicatessen" my tuches! My pastrami egg rolls were burnt to a crisp and dripping grease (see photo). The plate had pools of dirty fryer grease on it from them. They were inedible. The "matzo balls" were so light and texture-less, they could only have been made with baking powder. Those flavorless air-puffs were many things, but not matzo balls. They were served in a lukewarm bowl of flavorless yellow water. I pointed all of this out to my waiter, who had wondered why I didn't eat it. He offered to do nothing to fix it. My server forgot to bring the condiments I asked for. And when I reminded him, he brought the wrong ones. He never brought the extra napkins that I asked for...twice. The top slice of the rye bread my pastrami sandwich came on was falling apart from having been stale. The bottom slice was so soggy from the wet pastrami, I ate my sandwich with a knife & fork. That was a $30 meal for one that I'll never repeat.

Well I'm going to cut them some slack since it's the day before Thanksgiving and they were very busy with ToGo orders otherwise I would say really bad experience. However, typically speaking TooJay's has very good food, yes it's a bit overpriced LOL but what isn't these days. I always order rye bread for family functions because 1. it's delicious and 2. it's absolutely perfect for serving with dips. I asked them for seedless rye bread which they normally have to bake special because they don't keep a lot of that around. He checked and said yes we do have some it was either baked this morning or yesterday and I said please I would really rather have it fresh I'm willing to wait if you can make it for me. He wasn't very happy but said okay it'll be 20 minutes. I was there in 25 minutes and it was extremely unorganized, they had several orders that they were having some issues with. I waited patiently because honestly they looked frazzled and I didn't want to add to their troubles LOL. When it was my turn he brought out the Rye and it was not a pound I said I'm sorry is this mine? He said yes so I asked Is this a pound? He looked right at me and said yes this is a pound. In the meantime I'm staring right at the label that says .75 lbs lol (lie number 1). No biggie I just said do you mind if I have a little more if you don't have anymore I understand I don't want to be a problem, he said no it's okay I'll get another one I'm just not sure how they sliced it. He did get more and everything is okay my complaint would be that they specifically said they would bake it and it definitely is not freshly baked bread. Typically when it's fresh bread you go in and they can't even put the bread tie on the bag because it's too hot so they give you the bread tie and tell you to wait till it cools down a little then you can tie it. This bread was stone cold most definitely not freshly made. So here's the thing, if you're too busy to bake fresh bread please just say it. Tell me I'm so sorry we really can't do it this evening we just have too much to do or whatever, but don't just lie to a customer that's what bothers me. It's not that the bread is old or stale it really isn't and things will be fine but honestly just don't lie. Other than that like I said I do understand it's the day before Thanksgiving I know they are busy if it hadn't been for the lies it would have been no biggie. But their bread is delicious so I will...

I can't say anything about the food because after waiting to be served for 15 minutes with antsy twin babies, we left.

When we arrived, the hostess was sweet, and was asking the lead waitress where the ideal place for a family of twins and a large stroller would be. The waitress was immediately annoyed and told her to put us off in an uncomfortable corner. The hostess questioned the location and suggested a different spot. The waitress rejected the idea and said we must sit where she originally stated. The hostess said "well, she's very particular and I do my best to not upset her" which we thought was odd.

We were not offered high chairs, so I had to get them myself, really not a big deal. So as time goes on the twins are getting antsier and antsier, I saw the hostess motion to help us. But the waitress snapped and said "NO I'M GOING TO HELP THIS OTHER TABLE FIRST."

Finally, a different waitress anxiously came to take our drink order (meanwhile Guests who had arrived after us were getting their drinks) and we said we were also ready to order our meal if possible. She nervously suggested that she was not allowed, only the lead waitress could do that. So we waited and waited for her to come to our table, and never saw her, despite babies being somewhat loud and unignorable at this point.

No we are not from this area, so I'm not sure if this is common practice. But it seems to me that there is one blonde bully waitress making all the other servers cower in fear, meanwhile providing horrible service. Well take it...
