To begin, I am not normally one to leave reviews on experiences, and consider myself a non-picky eater. In fact, I have never left a review on a dining experience before in my life.
I placed a reservation at Sobie's Restaurant for my anniversary dinner based on a friend's recommendation and the online reviews seemed good.
I arrived and the drinks were good. Once seated, our server Lisa U. greeted us. The appetizer (cheese curds) were good. I would say they were the best part of the entire experience.
After ordering our food, it became noticeable that our server was not paying much attention to our table as drink glasses began to empty. The family behind us also seemed irritated with server Lisa U. and she seemed to not be focusing on what she was doing.
The wait for the food was longer than any other restaurant I've patronized in Oconomowoc. Once the food arrived, it appeared good at first glance. I ordered the 4 piece chicken dinner with an upcharge for white meat and also sweet potato fries. Two of my pieces of chicken were very small chicken wings which had practically no meat on them. The chicken had no flavor or seasoning and I would venture to say that Pick 'N Save Deli chicken would have been better. I would describe the sweet potato fries as also having very little flavor and no seasoning on them. They were also soft and squishy. They reminded me of re-heating fries in the microwave the next day. Overall I could not even finish my meal and it was a disappointment.
My wife ordered a pasta dish and it was not bad. The problem was that our server (Lisa U.) delivered plates for my wife and I, and did not bring my child's dish to the table. She said nothing and walked away while my child sat there with no food. It appeared our server completely forgot about the meal. I can only assume she then entered the kitchen and told the chef to make the pasta dish.
A few minutes later she delivered the meal to the table and it looked terrible as there appeared to be no or very little butter on it and no seasoning. It was a small dish with undercooked pasta. The server then mentioned the normal chef was not working and he needed a night off from work.
Lisa U. then stated that the pasta should have parmesan cheese on it and that it was missed. Instead of bringing the dish to the kitchen to finish it, she returned with a small plastic cup of parmesan cheese.
Overall, it was quite a disappointing experience for our first time at Sobie's Restaurant which was for our anniversary dinner. I will not be recommending...
Read moreWe were here 3 years ago for our anniversary for the 1st time. We absolutely loved it! When I asked my wife were we wanted to go to celebrate our 10 year anniversary she said. We need to go back to Sobies. I made reservations online early in the week. Once we got there it was a very different experience. We went to the Hostess’s stand and she looked like she rolled out of bed. Told her about our reservation and we were celebrating our anniversary. She just took us to a table did not say anything to us. Our Server came over and goes… I see you found the drink menu what do you want…Made zero recommendations or mentioned house specials. Than said, I see your still looking and walked away. I had to ask her to come back as we wanted an appetizer. Someone else brought out our appetizer and we had not even put our order in. Once she did come back I ordered the Shrimp and Scallops and my wife ordered the chicken and linguine. I Than had to ask if the had any soup she had to pull out her phone to give me the 3 soups of the night. I ordered the mushrooms and rice and she left… I looked at my wife and half giggled and said. I guess you don’t get one. She never even looked her way and asked what she wanted. They were not that busy either. Once we got our food, was not even delivered by our server, I could only take 2 bites, it looked like something I would get out of a supermarket Deli. Was not very warm and the scallops and Shrimp looked like they were boiled… everything was very tasteless for a $30 meal. The tomato sauce in my wife’s Chicken dish had so much acidity to it she could not eat it. By the time we seen our server she was asking us how many boxes we needed. We just wanted to get out of there. We were seated by 5:25 and was paid and out by 6pm! We ended up leaving hungry and extremely disappointed. On the $ spent, quality of food. Not 1 person asked if we were celebrating, it was mentioned to the Hostess. And the other 2 people we seen working, 1 was in shorts shirt not tucked in (and yes you can look nice without it tucked in) this was not, and another server with ankle high jean all tore up in the legs. If you’re offering fine dinning pricing please look the part. I worked as a server for over 6 years same with my wife. We understand things that can’t be controlled and under stand if people just do not care. We got the impression nobody seemed to care tonight. Will be a bit before we come back. Sad when our 1st was so good that left such a positive experience and it happened on our 10year...
Read moreFour of us went to Sobie's the Monday night after their soft openings on Friday and Saturday. We walked in and stood there waiting for the hostess which took about 5 minutes. (they weren't busy) The waitresses were eating at the end of the bar when we walked in which they probably should have done prior to opening at 5pm. Service was slow, waitress didn't have a clue as to what she was doing. She got us a craft of water and set down 4 glasses, we had to fill them ourselves. Didn't know the menu or what kind of beer they had (which ended up being 3 crafts, no domestic) had to run to the cellar for a beer they said they had only to be told it didn't come on the delivery truck Saturday like a lot of other things we found out. To start I ordered a cup of chicken rice soup and it was extremely small and expensive. Soup was ok or maybe I was just really hungry. Then I ordered the most expensive steak on the menu only to be served a piece of meat that was tough and stringy. Green beans tasted like they had freezer burn and my potatoes were under cooked. The Sobie's House salad's were not good, very blah and the dressing was terrible. (Didn't taste like granny smith apples like they advertise) The salmon was ok. The waitress never came to the table to check on us until we were ready to pay the bill. She asked us if we wanted dessert. She said they have this great pineapple upside down cake but it takes awhile to prepare. Guess that was the only dessert they had as she never mentioned anything else. I told her we were done and would take our bill. She asked me how the meal was and I told her how bad everything was. Her reply was I'll let the owner know.....ok so now what? Absolutely nothing.....no owner, manager no one came to see what was wrong or even say thank you for coming to our restaurant. Won't be back extremely unorganized and unprofessional. The food we had was not good at all. The meal ended up being over $100 which for the quality of the food was ridiculous. Instead of trying to make the menu fancy how about making it straight forward good tasting food. Unfortunately you won't find it here. One bright note is the décor is well done other than that this place was a total...
