If I could give them a negative score I certainly would. They’ve earned it.
We recently moved to Toledo and are searching for an authentic Mexican restaurant. We’ve been to Palacio Maya, 5 times. Overall the food is mediocre, the menus need a thorough wipe down, which makes me wonder about the kitchen and the guacamole made at your table is inconsistent. The amount of ingredients and even how thoroughly the ingredients are mixed into the guacamole depends on the server who’s preparing it.
During about half of your dinners at the Palacio Maya we’ve had a waiter who is abrupt and borderline rude. Last night we went in for dinner with a coupon we received in the mail that afternoon. Unfortunately, we had the same rude server. When I asked him about the special on the coupon he said, “no coupons”. I showed him the coupon and he looked reluctant to write down the order. He paused for about 10 seconds before writing my order down. When the bill came he did not billed us the reduced price. When I called his to his attention. He rolled his eyes and without explanation just left the table. He approached the manager and got another bill for the same price?? When he returned to the table I pointed out that the price still hadn’t been adjusted. Once again he went back to the manger for another bill. When he came back to our table he was smiling and held the bill uncomfortably close to my face while smiling. I waved his hand with our bill away from my face. I asked him if many customers use their coupons. His response was, “no speak English”. I happen to be Hispanic and speak Spanish. I asked him in Spanish to talk with me about the bill. He walked away. My husband and myself were livid that he approached me in such a sarcastic and aggressive way, over $3.00. When cashing out and recapping the whole situation with the manager he initially laughed when I told him how close he had held the bill to my face. When I said no, this is not funny. He quickly stopped laughing and said repeatedly that he’d talk to the server.
Needless to say, we will never go back to that restaurant even though it’s in close proximity to our house. I would recommend if your food is not appropriately prepared or if you’re ever abruptly, or aggressively treated at Palacio Maya to immediately call the manager over to your table. Wish we would have.

Building Atmosphere and Cleanliness: -Over all was super pretty outside. Lights were up, it was just beautiful..until we got inside. Inside was actually decorated Nicely for the holidays, and it was overall welcoming, until we sat down. It was very dusty, dirty and the menu really needed to be cleaned. It also seemed a little old fashioned which honestly I didn’t mind.
Food: -Food was actually pretty good. The appetizers came out with a skillet and was actually boiling, that’s how we knew it was at least fresh. Though I do have to say that the rice did taste like the microwave little baggies you get at the supermarket. I got the number two with double rice and no bell peppers and it was delicious, but very bland which is surprising.
Waitress: -Our waitress was fairly nice, but definitely had some kind of attitude. You could tell she was defiantly not wanting to be there and I’m not fully sure but it looked family owned? There was the owners maybe or a waitresses kid(s) running around everywhere and the waitress were very loud. Our waitress also very self inputting to our time at the restaurant. Every two minutes she kept asking if we were ready and we kept telling her a few more minutes.
I would only recommend coming here if you have absolutely no other options. But...
Read moreHorrible Covid Precautions!!
We visited this restaurant on Saturday, January 9, 2021. We should have walked out when we got there but gave them the benefit of the doubt. They were taking ZERO covid precautions. They had people elbow to elbow at the bar and in the waiting area and every table was full. Wait staff were wearing masking under their noses or around their chins. Drinks were being refilled with the straw in the cup at the machine instead of issuing new glasses. We ordered fajitas and they arrived at our table delivered by two men - possibly a manager and a wait staff? The one that looked like a manager or head kitchen staff didn't have a mask on at all. I am all for enjoying life and not closing everything down due to covid, but some precautions would have been nice. The rate they are going and the way they are acting, there will be a huge outbreak caused by...
