MJ's Deli — Restaurant in Ojai

Amazing deli! We were starving after a hike & MJ’s did not disappoint. We had the New Yorker, the Big Cali, the potato salad, & two pickles to go. Bummed they did not toast my sandwich while I asked for it hot, but they did toast my husband’s, & the cashier was also being trained so she may have just missed it. That slight disappointment went away very quickly though because the sandwich was soooooo good. Like, talking about if we could do the 45 min drive to MJ’s from our place just to come back again good, lol. We both also really liked the potato salad, tasted very “pickley” with tons of dill as well. If you’re not into pickles, the flavor may be a bit strong, but we loved it. Small place, a couple tables outside & some barstools inside, but don’t overlook this place! It’s right next to some larger restaurants that may have more reviews, but this is definitely one to check out. Got lucky with parking for lunchtime on a Sunday, but definitely not tons of spaces for the amount of shops/ restaurants in this area. The usual downtown Ojai parking...

Diving into the details

1. I ordered the New Yorker sub and it was STACKED! The sandwich is so big that I I shared it with my partner and it was plenty. The best part of the meal though was their potato salad. The seasonings and flavor were very stand out. The potatoes were the perfect texture too! I loved it and would highly recommend! The entire meal was perfect for a hot day.

2. I lost my reusable bag here when visiting Ojai and was honestly pretty sad about it. I figured I should just call and see if I left it at the deli. This is a belated review (for April) but I really wanted to make sure I give this place a positive review. I ordered 40 sandwiches from MJ's for a TV crew. Thank you for making me look so good on the job! I thought my veggie sandwich was amazing and the crew told me that their meat sandwiches were tasty too. This business was incredibly patient and kind when I changed details on them multiple times and the owner Michael even called me personally to make sure the order was correct.
