My wife and I stopped in here for dessert after a fantastic dinner at Masa. I'm not sure what my expectations were, but this place destroyed them!! I ordered a slice of Berry Cake and a double espresso with Bailey's, and Cody had a strawberry jarred dessert with a latte. The desserts were phenomenal. The cakes are 3 tiered 8-10" rounds that are cut into only 6 slices. If you need a visual reference (no pics since I didn't have my phone), one slice is about the height of a 32oz Yeti and at least as wide. Add the 4-5" depth, and what you have is a mountain of moist, delicious, scratch-made cake filled with chantilly cream and fresh berries. What blew my expectations away, however, was the experience and conversations with the employee (singular) that was working. Watching this young girl making fresh espresso, taking numerous orders, serving the tables, cooking food, slicing and serving desserts, and helping a new employee learn the register, all while talking to my wife and I about the place! She was eager to talk about the different menu items, which are all scratch made. The way she described the food just made me want to try everything on the menu, which until she told me I didn't realize was anything more than desserts. Learning that they have scratch-made sweet and savory crèpes made me very happy since crèpes, in my opinion, are an extremely underrated vessel for serving fantastic dishes! Watching her make them right in front of me made me mad that I had already eaten diner... I will be back either Monday or Tuesday next week for savory crèpes!! If they are what I'm expecting, then this place will become a weekly lunch spot for me!
Edit* So I went back for crèpes, and man, are they fantastic! I got the Croque Monsieur and the berries with cream. Everybody needs to be eating these crèpes!! They recently had to shrink their crèpe menu due to low sales. I suggested that they invest in some marketing since nowhere in their online presence does it talk about these phenomenal works of sandwich art. They advertise as a gourmet dessert shop, which they are, but they have the talent to be so much more! They also eliminated their scratch made empanadas, which, if I had known about, would have been buying by the dozen. I emphatically hope they invest in the savory side because it could be one of those hidden gems you see on Triple D's that blow up after...
Read moreNEW: This place is sketchy and dingy the from the reviews you can tell the staff likes to piss of customers. Manager response is nonsense. Gelato is a scoop and serve. The staff members stood around and did nothing. The counter person told us "they do not do refunds." original Upon entering the guy at the counter was bothered by us interrupting is phone use. He never forgave us. He offered no greating / no suggestions just cold. We ordered a single cone and after a while we ask about it and he says without checking "they're making it". We checked back every few minutes to the same answer. Finally I ask did they have to make a fresh cone? Again "they're making it" later my wife asked (perhaps he was only pissed at me?) nope same cold "they're making it". We ask for refund he said "they do not give refunds". I asked for phone number of owner he said "it is on the webpage". I recorded asking him again and he said the same thing on video.
We never got our single Gelato in a cone. They just never made it. Read the 1 star reviews. They appear to stand around and kill time for giggles. I am amazed at the levels of do not give a Sh&^. So now I have to call my credit card to do a chargeback. Everything is premade the only draw for this place is its proximity to top notch restaurants. This place brings the whole shopping/dining area down.
Scooping Gelato into a cone that is premade (they do not make fresh cones plus they would be hot) only takes 1 minute. The staff just enjoys screwing with the customers and they have management approval....
Read moreSo sad to be sharing this review — My sister and I went to Domenico’s coffee to order some coffees and work remotely — knowing that Domenico only serves sweets / coffee, we ordered our favorite appetizer to go for lunch from their neighboring restaraunt across the breezeway (Riserva), and when I came back from Riserva with our to go sack the employee started rudely shaking her head no and told us we couldn’t eat in there (and I would like to add that there was nothing kind about her demeanor). We were the only customers in the coffee shop.
I love supporting local businesses like Domenico and all the other Chisholm Creek businesses, so to be turned away due to ordering a to go appetizer from Riserva (their fellow neighboring business) is beyond shocking. I’m truly sad + shocked at the same time, we definitely won’t be returning to this business.
Thank you Riserva for letting us post up on your patio to finish the yummy short rib hummus that we...
