Living in the Urban Core, it’s easy to forget about NW OKC. We chose to eat at Little Mike’s today entirely on a whim. “Let’s try this mom and pop place,” we said. Then we read the reviews. Prepare yourselves before you give Little Mike’s a try (if ever). Upon entering this tiny spot just off of Northwest Expressway the smell of grilled onions and “MADE IN AMERICA” beef will overwhelm you. Then you notice the environment. Pale mint walls, accents of dark green, old Norman Rockwell posters framed above aging booths, and far-right memes plastered on random cork boards and on any available surface. We were expecting this from the warnings of other reviewers. We even argued over whether or not we wanted to support someone with these beliefs by spending money at their establishment. Ultimately, we decided to go to witness for ourselves what other reviewers here likened to the chain messages sent by your crazy uncle. Inside, you’ll honestly be hard-pressed to find a soul under the age of social security benefits. Ironic, really. But we were greeted by friendly service and we had our order taken promptly. They have options like pink lemonade, a fixins bar, and the regular condiments. My caeser salad burger was good but the dressing was more similar to mayonnaise in consistency. My boyfriend had the hickory and liked it. We had fries and onion rings as sides. I thought the fries needed seasoning and were overly greasy, my boyfriend liked them, but the onion rings were perfect. All in all, pretty classic Oklahoma burger. Would I go back? I’m not sure. There are many burger joints in the Metro and none of them use political leanings or jokes about concentration camps as decor. I’ll have to...
Read moreMy Wife and I have been going to Little Mike's for YEARS. We were probably some of their first customers. My Wife is a burger "connoisseur", and she always says that this place has the best burgers. We've been there so many times, that the waitstaff automatically starts cooking our orders before we even place them. Speaking of the waitstaff: Very friendly and courteous. We've never had, heard, or seen a complaint about them. The place is obviously owned and operated by a conservative, right-wing family. All one has to do is look at all the political messages taped on the walls. And the decor has always been that way. Myself, I'm fiscally conservative and socially liberal (I know, I know. "Liberal" is a four-letter word in Oklahoma). But I always looked upon Little Mike's right-wing propaganda wallpaper as humorous, even though I know they take it way more seriously. But lately, my wife and I have had enough of all this Trump stuff being shoved down our throats, when all we want is a good burger; the branding of Trump's name on the hamburger buns was the straw that broke the camel's back. Granted, the branding of the buns, in and of itself, is harmless. But coupled with all the wall propaganda, it all began to leave a bad taste in our mouths. Like I said, they serve great food. But it's a restaurant to serve EVERYBODY. Why would an owner want to alienate part of it's customers? A piece of advice for "Mike": Keep serving your good food, leave your politics out of your burgers, and find another platform with which to place your political soapbox. Until then, your food and atmosphere have gotten too hard to digest. We won't...
Read moredon't go here if you're a minority in any way, you will not feel safe, and if you are a cishet republican white man, still don't go here if you want good food.
food was mid for the price (almost $20 after tax for two kids meals, thin burger, grease saturated fries), could've gotten better adult burger combo at braum's for that. buffet with toppings and condiments was kinda crusty too. any points that would go into good service by the employees is rendered null by the underlying politics of the place.
to address the elephant in the room: i think it's a horrible business practice to root it so deeply into politics. it's natural if your political views influence how you run your business, but this place essentially formed wallpaper exclusively of trump and elon musk's face with memes and facebook clickbait level "news headlines" of them, not to mention the memorabilia hung and flashing everywhere, the life size cardboard cutout of trump in the back, the wall of hatemail for mike's politics and love for trump (like that's at all professional and not embarassing for a grown man to do), and the option to burn trump's name on the bun. it's idolatrous and cultish, it's creepy and weird. when he dies and hype for him goes i have no idea how this restaurant is gonna look but i can imagine it will be much nicer, brighter, and more inviting—if it isn't completely out of business. i can only imagine the 4.4 rating and the thing keeping this place afloat is fellow trump worshippers...
