On a random whim, we decided to try Syrup. It's been on my "to try" list for some time, and I'm glad we chose to go today! The selection of coffee drinks was amazing! I tried the Bumblebee, espresso shots with honey - it was very delicious and gave me the idea to try a latte with the honey in it too. I highly recommend both. My partner tried a latte with caramel, very smooth and he plans to get a normal without sweetener next time we go. The food was also amazing. It's higher priced for what I usually eat for breakfast (Beverly's being my main place), but it is in a hipster-esque type place with high-quality dishes and a great casual atmosphere. I would still recommend it. We both got the Haystacks for a meal, but he got salmon added to his. His review of the salmon was that it was okay but not worth a second revisiting. The normal haystacks with just bacon was amazing. I don't often eat bacon and gave him some of mine, but it was good all the same. The poached egg was perfect and the hashbrowns crispy perfect. I also appreciated that the hollandaise was very mild and did not drown the dish. We also got their regular pancakes to share, a half stack. We were intrigued because they made them with sweet cream. I added chocolate chips, because as a female I of course love chocolate, and it did not disappoint. We tried a bite without syrup, delish. We decided to use the small cup serving of syrup as if it was meant to drown the pancake, also delish (not too sweet, at all!). We sat at the bar so we could eat pretty much as soon as we ordered, otherwise it was a 30 min wait for a table, which honestly isn't too bad for brunch on a Sunday. The place was not overly noisy, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the servers were kind and pleasant. To-go drinks to take and finish your coffees are offered, though we finished ours before we left. Lastly, the parking was better than I expected for such a small establishment. There was room to park for as busy as they were but I imagine it might be harder on busier days. 10/10, we will...
Read moreWow where to begin. I've been a fan of the original Syrup in Norman for years since they opened. When this location opened I was so eager to take my wife since it's much closer to our home now. Boy was I let down. On our first trip to the new location we ordered our favorite meal HomeSweet Homa Pancakes. The cakes came out luke warm and had the marshmallow topping on half the cakes and hanging off the side of the plate like it was slopped on. We figured okay just a bad experience but next time will be better. NOPE! On our next visit we were seated next to two women. One was getting ready to head back home from her visiting her friend. Her friend like us loved the Norman location but decided to bring her to this one. We all started talking and ordered coffee. When the coffee arrived it had growns visibly floating around in the cups and stuck to the sides of the glass coffee cups. It was obvious the waitress saw this and did nothing so we both asked for a new brew. After about 15 minutes our food arrived and our new cups of coffee. Hers came with lip stick all over the edge of the dirty glass and mine was also obviously dirty with food stuck to the edge. We informed our waitress and she apologized but that was it. A manager was never informed. No comp for coffee was ever offered. Since this experience I have written into Syrup on their facebook page and they have apologized and that is it. They refuse to take responsibility and try and make the situation right by inviting us back and taking care of our meal to prove this has been remedied. This is obviously being run by unexperienced management who lacks the curtesy and experience to handle...
Read moreYesterday we stopped in to this restaurant for the first time. We were seated after a short wait. And then it went down hill. They seated us by the kitchen area. The staff was rude. The chairs are HARD. Solid metal seat with metal bars near the lower back area. Painful for someone that has had hip surgery. I asked for a chair cushion and they said they would check but never addressed it, so we decided to order our food to go. We had to stand because the waiting area seating consisted of a hard wooden box. Very uncomfortable and painful to sit on. After a 25 minute wait, we received our two orders of frittata with toast and strawberries. They did not provide any napkins or plasticware to eat with, so we had to stop somewhere else to get those things. The toast and strawberries were good. The frittata however, was absolutely disgusting. It was mostly potatoes and some cheese on top, with very little egg inside and big chunks of raw crunchy green bell pepper and big chunks of raw crunchy onion throughout. It did not have any bacon in it, as the menu description stated. It was not seasoned either and tasted of bad green bell pepper and raw onion. The frittata was one of the worst restaurant items we have ever ordered anywhere. When I called the restaurant to tell them about the lack of bacon and excess of raw vegetables, they put me on hold for several minutes and never came to the phone. I hung up and didn't call back. They didn't call me back either. So what this boils down to is, we had a disappointing experience and we will never go back. We wouldn't recommend this restaurant to...
