Smoked meat smell outside entrance got me excited. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The prices were comparable to other KC BBQ joints; cheaper than upscale places. Good food for a good price. The Burnt Ends had a nice smoke ring and a good amount of fat on them for excellent flavor. I could've used a little bit more bark on them. The sides I tried were mostly average. Nothing really jumped out at me. The best was probably the cheesy corn which was thick, creamy and had corn sized bits of ham mixed in it. The sauces were all sweet. The sweetest had a bright red color an tasted strongly of strawberry. The hot sauce was good. More sweet than spicy. The competition sauce was the best. Dark reddish/brown in color. A sweet KC type BBQ sauce with garlic, onion and several other spices I couldn't identify. Both sweet and savory. Overall, Crazy Good Eats hit all the right spots. Friendly staff, easy to find location, large menu (lots more to try for me), well designed interior and bonus points for outdoor seating and the drive thru. #Recommended #NatApproved #KCFoodie #CulinaryAdventures #ExploreYourCity #OlatheKS

I’ve been to many BBQ places in KC and got to experience this place while they catered a wedding. The food was amazing at the wedding. I wanted to try it again so I went there tonight. Well I was really disappointed. The person taking my order was frigid to say the least. And the system they used asked for a tip before I ever got my food! lol. I ordered burnt ends with Cole slaw. About 24 min after my food was ready. I was called to get it myself. Well the burnt ends were very good and did not have much flavor at all. Cole slaw was ok. The corn bread was ice cold as well. I don’t see a microwave nearby or I would have gladly taken advantage. The plate was not very presentable compared to their competitors in the area. Their BBQ sauce was very sweet with little flavor as well. The “Not So” Crazy Good Eats was well…not at all good.

Went to Crazy Good BBQ for lunch while we were at a softball tournament. It was just ok. I got the Certifiably Delicious plate. 2 meats, side, and corn bread for 15.95. I got the pulled chicken, turkey, and fries. Pulled chicken was tough and dry. The turkey was ok but not tender enough to be cut as thick as it was. The fries were really good, though. As the first picture shows, it is seriously overpriced for the portions of meat you get. My wife got the turkey sandwich with onion straws. The onion straws stole the show. They were phenomenal. All of the sauces were really good also. If not for the sides and the sauces, I would have rated less than 3 stars. In KC, if you are going to do BBQ, the meat needs to be on point and it just wasn't here. Especially for the prices. The restaurant was clean and neat, though.

I so want this to be a good place to eat. The food is actually quite good, and it's within walking distance.

But the service is horrible.

What kind of BBQ place runs out of ribs. Shame on you. I went there on a Friday after work recently an they were out of ribs. And this isn't the first time. They ran out of chicken this time - again on a Friday. The girl at the register asked if I wanted to substitute something, so I said turkey. "Well I'm not sure we can do that." Well then why did you ask me. She came back and said the kitchen acquiesced and I could have turkey. All in all $40 for 3 meals which isn't horrible.

The dining room holds about 60 and there were maybe 10 people. I sat down and waited. 15 minutes later they called my name. Not to tell me my food was ready but to tell me they'd found some chicken in the back of the warmer and asked if I wanted to switch it out. I didn't want to dent their food costs so I agreed.

Another 5 to 10 minutes went by and they called my name again. I went to get my food and there wasn't anyone there. I had to lean over the counter and get their attention to ask if I could get the drink cup that came with my kid's meal. I was directed to the register which now had about 10 people in line, all of whom were looking at me like I was in the way, which honestly I was, but at no fault of my own. The girl at the register was having issues and the guy helping her just looked up and stared at me with that what-do-you-want look. Got my cup and left.

Probably will just stick with KC Joe's. I'd rather wait I...

TL;DR - Food is phenomenal but service is lacking.

I've been here so many times, and every single time I go, something is messed up. Takeout orders missing BBQ sauces, getting the wrong sauces, missing sandwiches, horseradish on things it was requested removed from, orders consistently taking 10-20 minutes longer than estimated (even when the restaurant is empty). One time I ordered an hour ahead for 7 people, and it was only when I got there that they told me they hadn't started on it because they don't do ordering ahead unless it's to go (which is fine, but tell me that while I'm on the phone and not after I've got my entire family there, expecting food to be ready). These are just a few of the plethora of issues I've had.

But here's the thing - the food is so. Incredibly. Good. I feel like I'm in an unhealthy relationship because I keep coming back. The burnt end burner and fries here are my favorite BBQ, period. Absolutely unmatched flavor on the sandwich and the crispiness + seasoning of the fries makes them top tier in my opinion. The sweet & tangy BBQ sauce is on my birthday wish list this year because I can't get enough of it.

Staff has always been friendly, and the building is nice enough, but I don't think I've ever had a visit where there wasn't a problem of some kind - and I promise I'm not overly critical of everything all the time. This place has some of my favorite food in the world, I just wish I could get it from somewhere...
