This place is overall executed really well. It reminds me of a French bistro. The interior is charmin: great decor & ambiance. The tile floor is beautiful & the floor to ceiling windows allow tons of natural light. The noise is normal level. There are 3 seating areas: banquettes on the left as you walk in & seating along the window area & then outdoor covered umbrella seating, The display cases are awesome. They have a merchandise area with clothing, sauces, etc then a bay with cold prepared foods & drinks. Then the bakery items, pizzas, sandwich and pastries. There’s a separate area to the far right for coffee & espresso drinks. There are 2 middle tables for grocery items: chips, evoo, cookies, teas, coffee, espresso etc. The menu selection is great. Lots of yummy bowls, salads, sandwiches to pick from. I ordered a toasted loaded bagel with garlic cc, salmon, tomato, capers. Bagel was toasted perfectly & delicious. Only 2 things that are conspicuously absent: They don’t announce your order # or your name of your order when it’s ready. There is NO “ORDER HERE” & “PICKUP HERE” SIGNS for the counter. The new store in Old Saybrook looks great and has a great vibe. The service is very slow we waited quite a long time for food including 15 minutes for a very simple breakfast sandwich. The breakfast sandwich was tasty but it did not contain the sausage it was supposed to contain! The iced latte with added coconut syrup either had no coconut syrup at all or it had too little because I could not taste any coconut! The staff are friendly but there is no sense of urgency whatsoever, and you can tell that whoever is supposed to be managing this store is not really taking their job seriously. We’ve always loved DORO’s other locations, so we were excited to check out this new spot but unfortunately, our experience fell short. After placing our order, we waited over 30 minutes while watching multiple other groups who ordered after us receive their food first. after waiting 30 minutes, we were told that the waffle we originally ordered wasn’t available. the manager told us we could “just keep waiting” (without a time estimate) or order something else. The manager’s attitude was dismissive. When we did receive our food one meal was cold. We know opening a new location comes with some hiccups, but the lack of communication and management professionalism here stood out.
