The Health Department should be notified of the meat being sold at this store. I have on multiple occasions bought meat that had a sell by/freeze by date of days ahead. Still looked good, so I reluctantly kept giving it a try. I normally spend extra on the organic, grass fed meats, so it was more disappointing each time. Finally I saved one of the steaks I bought (literally the day before) and returned it, because it was just turning into robbery at that point (I normally would just throw it out because I'm a mom and it's an inconvenience to have to return anything). Even the kid at the counter made a face when he opened it. My fridge works, it wasn't left out, that's just how it came from the packaging. I know multiple others have complained on the town page about this Stop & Shop and the freshness of the products they were purchasing. I had just moved to town so hadn't personally experienced it yet, but I now have on multiple occasions and it's frustrating. I brought it up to the store manager and it seems as though nothing has been done. I have heard through the grapevine that whoever works in the meat department re-labels products that still look OK to try sell them at regular price even when they were past their original sell by date (which honestly would explain my instance of product looking fine but smelling absolutely putrid when opened). I've started to take pictures of the meat when I go so I have some pictures of what is being put on the shelves. If meat is brown, it should not be sold at all!!! That is just disgusting. Trying to make a few bucks at the risk of getting someone sick isn't it... I'm so fed up with the price of groceries & it becomes more frustrating when the quality being of products being sold to us is awful. I will now only buy from local farms moving forward...

Stop & shop at old saybrook is a large grocery store chain you will get fresh vegetables, fruits,Milk,Bread,Butter, chocolates, ice cream, Snacks, stationary items, cosmetics items . It allows online shopping, in store shopping, curbside pickup also available there. Vegetables and fruits from stop and shop is of good quality but little high price than usual . Pets section is also available. Public Restroom is also available. Disinfectant surface for customers. Wheelchair accessible parking also available there. Payment mode cash and digital both . Self checkout also available to get rid of lane. Public transport (Bus service) is also available there.

Stop-& Shop Old Saybrook was my go-to grocery store in this area for over 20 years. But now that it's a place where I am followed around by a googley-eyed robo-cop collecting data on my shopping habits only to be met by rude cashiers (four times in a row, four different people!) who can't be bothered to say more than "Stop & Shop Card" in a tone equally robotic as their robotic shopper stalker. I almost never shop there any more. I now buy the bulk of my groceries at Big Y where there are no robots, and all their cashiers actually remember that they are humans serving humans. A concept, regrettably, Stop & Shop seems to have forgotten.

Some of the food I purchased from the deli was rotten and covered in black fuzz. The seafood I bought was also marked with a "sell by" date that was 3 months ago. They froze it and saved it until now as part of a "sale". The pasta expired 2 months ago and now I am worried about the freshness of the other items I purchased. Why is expired food still on the shelves?

Every time I go I get "selected" for a supposedly random search, and it happens every single time I try to shop at this particular Stop & Shop. One lady double scanned the items in my cart, adding additional charges to my bill that took a while to figure out how to remove. My most recent visit was during a crowded day with a long line. Not only did I get "selected" for the search again - further holding up the line of people waiting, but the self-checkout froze. I have tried asking the employees why I keep getting "selected" - if it's based on buying certain items or spending a certain amount, but they didn't know.

Stop & Shop needs to stop with these frivolous searches. If you don't trust your customers to check themselves out then just get rid of the self-checkout and bring back the cashiers. I never have to deal with this anywhere else, such as Walmart, so why do I have to keep subjecting myself to a search every time I want to...

When recently shopping before a visit at a friend’s home for the weekend my friends and I had a terrible time trying to check out at self service. It was about 12 noon on a Saturday so we chose the self checkout line since the cashier lines were very long! We got held up several times when the self checkout machine stopped and yelled out…HELP IS ON THE WAY”. Well it took a while for the person to come over as many folks were having issues. this happened 3 times! We finally got through half of our items and then took everything left on the belt and put it back in our cart and chose the other self checkout area thinking that must be better… wrong!! Still we got caught up several times having to have the attendant clear it and it took about 30 minutes just to check out! We will choose another store next visit! Sorry but you’ve got to update or fix your technology! It was terrible and not a good welcome to Lovely old saybrook! I would expect more from a major...
