With my wife on a family cruise (Nope I’m not ready for a ship full of people), I invited a couple from church to have St Patrick’s Day lunch with me. Just celebrated their seventy ninth (79!!!) anniversary. Both use walkers and neither drive so we’re like “adopted kids”.
Eve’s was really busy, even though we came at 1:00 PM. But we were seated right away and ordered teas. We glanced at menus but of course we all ordered the Corned Beef and Cabbage meal, with salad salads. Our salads and fresh rolls came quickly. Salads were fresh, chilly and delicious. Since they were so busy we had ample time to talk while enjoying our salads.
About the time we were finishing our salads our Huge plates of food came. Oh boy! Why do we have to wait a whole year to enjoy this? The corned beef was super and sooo tender I didn’t need the knife to cut it. Potatoes were soft and perfect. Cabbage was just a bit Al Dente? Not quite as tender as I would have liked but I was able to saw through it in small pieces. Still crunchy, it too was delicious. And a side of horseradish, fairly mild, was a good partner for the beef.
Then disaster struck!!! As I reached for a roll from the basket I bumped my tea glass and a full glass of tea went all over my side of the table, partly in my plate but mostly in my lap! I used all the napkins on our table and Debbie, our excellent server, brought more. Managed to clean up the table mostly but my pants looked like a too-late run for the bathroom!
Thankfully it was a slow meal so by the time we left my pants didn’t show as being soaked. Oh my. I don’t think I have spilled a drink in years! Maybe I was too excited going after the yummy rolls. No pics of my wet pants and also no pic of the Coconut Cream Pie we shared. Stopped by with an Army Veteran friend that had never visited here. He was very impressed with the food, service and ambiance. He ordered a Steak Sub. I ordered Zucchini Straws to share and the Chicken Liver Plate with Onion Rings.
Our Zucchini Straws came quickly and were absolutely delicious! Hot, crisp and seasoned perfectly. And a huge pile! We had to push them away to have room for our lunch.
After a bit our meals came. He really enjoyed his Cheesesteak Sub. My Chicken Livers were out of this world. Best I have ever had. Onion Rings were perfect also. I recall that I’ve never had a bad meal of hundreds eaten here. My guest, although it was my treat, he insisted on paying the tip. The waitress, Luli Eve’s granddaughter and baker, and I were surprised. He left a 50% tip! I guess he liked it too!
When we moved to this small Florida town 33 years ago, Eve’s was just a donut shop. ThThen later served breakfast, again later added lunch and finally dinner. I’ve never had a bad meal there in all this time. And their cakes and pies are absolutely the best around. Great food, great service and fair prices make it...
Read moreThis morning my husband and I came in to try the food out, it was our first time ever in this restaurant. Upon arrival we waited almost five minutes before someone noticed we were there. We then we’re told to wait because they had to bring water to two dogs upfront. Another waitress came by looked at us and brought the dogs treats. Cute but not helpful. Another couple came in and we finally got a table they followed right after. The table that came in after us had drinks and their food before we even got our drinks. We never saw a waitress we got our hostess to get our drink order. Our waitress finally made her way over to us where she rudely asked for our order. After she snatched my menu away she was so kind to my husband. We watched as the table who came in after us enjoyed their breakfast and watched servers serve everyone else around us so quickly. For first impressions this is older persons restaurant. We are in our thirties and the rest are far older. This restaurant must not like the younger generation, we felt shunned at the second to last table in the far back. Oh and let me not forget they didn’t even noticed we didn’t have silverware until our food came. The environment is hot, the service is terrible first and last time back. We had our check dropped off and not even a have a great day, thanks for coming. Service is very poor as far as customer service is concernedAs far as the food… we’ll the food was fine, under seasoned but I understand. This restaurant could be so great if they boosted their moral up and smiled. A customer should not be ignored, be asked if food is okay and have their server facing the wall, should be looked at. It’s very sad. First and last time here. The old woman at the check out is probably my favorite part of this...
Read moreMy wife just came back home very upset from the treatment she received by a lady at the restaurant. I understand we're living in stressful times but customer service is still very important for people to keep going to your establishment. A rude lady came and not in a nice way, told my wife and her sister to move from the table they already were sitting because of social distancing when there was almost nobody in the restaurant and the table they chose wasn't labeled for no use. This lady who my wife couldn't get her name treated the waiter that was already serving them at that point like I would never treat a coworker or an employee in my business. My wife and sister ended up getting up and leaving without service. Were here from Oldsmar and it's a shame we have to take our business out of town for better service. I'm putting one star because I can put a lower review. I'm pretty sure the food is good but, good food can't be enjoyed with...
