I've come here a couple of times, but it's been a while. I wanted to try the vietnamese "banh mi". The sandwich was $6.50. Typically in a larger city where this is a prominent lunch item it is cheaper, but for olive branch, not a bad price. So I made it a combo, thinking that would be fairly cheap, but not sure if the combo pricing made it any cheaper. I got the chili cheese wedges as a side and a drink. Before tip, the total was $11.55. So my side and drink came out to be about $4. Then I tipped because I support "mom and pops/ small businesses". So my meal came out to be around $15. For a sandwich, chili cheese wedges and a drink. On to the food... first the chili cheese wedges. They were cooked well, the chili cheese...oh yea forgot it had garlic as well and jalapenos.... the combination was Great!!! Loved the side. These tastes sdi much better than the fast food chili cheese fries anywhere. Next is the Banh Mi. Im vietnamese, so I have high hopes and expectations for this.... the sandwich had, chopped pickled carrots, sliced pickled cucumbers, roasted pork, cilantro, with sriracha and spicy mayo as the sauces. Carrots were pickled well, but too much carrots were loaded. It over flowed the sandwich. The cucumbers were sliced rounds, they should be sliced long, it fits the French bread better. The spicy mayo...too much was put on there. The pork was a little dry. I understand that this is an alternative version of the banh mi, but it is missing a lot of ingredients. It also had chopped jalapenos in the sauce, but it should also be sliced to fit the bread. It was a good sandwich, but it is not a vietnamese banh mi. I gave it 4 stars for the chili cheese garlic wedges primarily. The banh mi I give a 3 star. But again, I love "mom and pops" places, so I support this establishment. I would come back and try other items. The fish tacos looked good, and I should try their signature burger as well......
Read moreI'm sure it's a great place but it wasn't for us, not that today. We had two handicap people in our group of 6 and we parked there on old 78 highway to keep from walki g so far. We made our way to the porch where we were greeted by a very nice, well informed young man. He helped us out with our order and then explained that there weren't any tables and chairs there and that we'd have to walk two doors away for a table, which wasn't really all that bad. When we got to the bar for a table everything was so compact that we could hardly get through and it was so loud. Not from happy sounds or music but the sound of a generator from a food truck right there beside the so called patio. Did I mention that we were compacted in a corner table that happened to be approximately two feet from the opened bay size garage door? After that seating didn't work out we decided to go out to the thing that looked like it may have once been a patio. There were a couple of extremely ragged tables with chairs there so that's where we went. It was so loud there from the generator that NOBODY could talk. So they texted to let us know our food was ready and a few of us had to go and get it. On the way back with all our food they discovered that there actually were tables on the other side of the building. We'd already moved twice and our handicap folks couldn't get around to the other side of the building so we remained there, scarffed down our food and got the heck out of that loud uncomfortable place. I'm sure the food was good just going by their reviews but by then we just wanted to leave. So I don't know how...
Read moreSidestreet Burgers is a place of extremes: tiny shop, huge menu. No "decor" - I felt I was eating in the kitchen's stockroom - but the food is generous and beautifully presented in clamshell take-out boxes.
The dining area is literally down the hall from the order counter/ kitchen. You must credit Sidestreet Burgers for efficiently using the space they have. Not to worry, Sidestreet is very much worth looking for. Although you do get that back room clutter, the place is very clean.
Sidestreet has developed a symbiotic relationship with the next-door Mississippi Ale House. You can order at Sidestreet, get a restaurant pager to let you know when your order is ready, then head over to the Ale House to partake of their local brew offerings.
Despite its size, Sidestreet is very close to being in what I call the "Big Food" category. One order might feed 2-3 people! My wife got enough Skinny Panda for two meals. (Skinny Panda is a Fat Panda, served with lettuce leaves instead of tortillas.) I sat down to one order of "Jake's Stupid BBQ Pork Nachos". The stupid part is thinking one person could eat all that.
Need to say, besides supporting Old Town Olive Branch (Hey! "OTOB" for short!!), I'll be back for more good...
