Old Towne Bakery — Restaurant in Olive Branch

I am giving a one star today and my honest review because I was a little blindsided today. We ordered a couple of cakes for birthdays from here recently with good results and delicious cake. Last cake we did find a hair in one cake but weren’t sure it came from the cake or us and gave the benefit of the doubt. I called the store to place a last minute cake order yesterday am for pickup today. I show up today and they tell me there is no cake and it’s for tomorrow. No one mentioned this on the phone. So I start looking at window cakes, which are a day or so old mind you and half off. When I picked one out I was told to just take that one, no writing on the cake or even offered for the mix up and was basically told to take the display cake as if I had paid for a fresh one and didn’t offer to refund the difference. This really didn’t sit well with me and even after going back in and asking for a refund they only offered a credit at the actual bakery. I will not be coming back. My office had a birthday party for my boss and this was a referral for the cake. The bakery is located in the heart of Old Town Olive Branch shops. It's easy to get in and out of and the employees are very nice and informative. The shop itself is not that big as well as their display case but they still have a large variety of all kinds of heavenly goodies. The birthday cake we got for my boss was decorated in a deer hunters theme and was awesome. The cake itself was out of this world!! So fresh and moist and delicious. We ate the whole cake expect for the large piece boss took home. Most people go to a food chain store for one of those pre-frozen pre-decorated cakes but I would highly recommend trying out this bakery instead. I received a cake and although the color, border and taste were beautiful the lettering was very messy and looked like something I could do at home with little decorating experience. I feel that for the price the lettering for a simple “happy birthday” message should look somewhat neat and professionally done. I have bought several custom cakes from here and never had one complaint until this most recent cake. I’d still give them another try because they make great cakes most of the time. Not sure if this was a missed quality check of the work done by apprentices or trainees. Quality in all aspects is a must when you’re buying a premium cake.
