We had the WEIRDEST, most unpleasant experience here on Saturday. Came in as a group of 4 around 7pm and found some seats at the bar. The restaurant was busy, but was quickly emptying. My group and I were asking questions about a drink list and what kind of crown flavors they carried. Looked over the drink menu and then we asked about how the THC cocktail was made. The bartender was extremely rude to us, and overall unpleasant. She opened the cooler door and slammed the HTC can in front of us. We were caught off guard, but honestly just curious about it. Then a group member asked about the pickle shot moonshine. The bartender just didn't want to answer any of our drink questions or be helpful or friendly in anyway. We ordered our drinks and the two guys of the group also ordered shots of the pickle moonshine. The bartender brought all our drinks over, but forgot one shot. My friend inquired about the missing shot "hey do you have his drink coming too?" and the bartender just snapped at us. Said "I'm not dealing with this" motioned to us and ran off the bar. We were all speechless. The other bartender came over and said that the girl's boyfriend just died, and she was busy, and we were bombarding her. I generally felt bad. I told the second bartender, we didn't mean to come off as aggressive, we just had questions as we were exploring the options, and at the end of day she did forget his drink. We just wanted to make sure he got it. The second bartender said I should apologize to bartender #1. It seems weird that a paying customer, asking questions about your menu needs to apologize, but I did. Bartender #1 again snapped at me and said "whatever" and walked off again. Not thank you, not I'm sorry, not let's move on and start over. Literally said "whatever". At this point everyone in the group is upset. We ask to speak to manager. We looked over to the kitchen and the bartender is standing there talking about us to the whole kitchen staff and waitstaff. It was so unprofessional and at this point we are generally uncomfortable to order food in fear that someone might mess with it. The manager comes over and does apologize with the same story. "her boyfriend just died and she works 1 day a month". That excuse just doesn't seem good enough for me. If you are sad, stay home and take time. I have been a bartender for a long time, I have worked hospitality for years. Leave the personal problems at the door, cry in a walk in, Take a smoke break, but snapping at paying guests because they asked you questions is just insane.... I wish I could say the food was good, it smelled good, but we couldn't eat due to the drama the bartender caused us, and our service was absolutely horrendous. We paid our tab and took our business elsewhere. It's a crazy experience to even write about, but I can't let the way we were...
Read moreI want to start by saying I had reasonably high hopes for this place! The chicken tenders are small but yummy! As for everything else, we will not be back. We spent $80 and I left hungry.
I’m not sure if we caught them at a bad time or what, (a Saturday at 1:30ish) but our waitress Sarah was not personable at all and the food was flavorless. (Delmonico, potatoes, and the Mac n cheese were like they had no seasoning) It took an unreasonable amount of time to be greeted once we were sat, and furthermore to even place our order and then I watched our food sit under the warmer for almost 20 mins, (if not longer) regardless of our waitress looking at the food up there multiple times.
Now, the gentleman who sat us was running food as much as he could, he was so kind and helpful and when HE finally brought us our food he got us extra plates and napkins for our kids no problem. I wish our tip could’ve gone to him. Had I had cash, it would have! (My two stars are only because of him) Sarah never even came to check on us after seeing we were served to check if we needed anything or if all looked correct! Which we were missing a side of potatoes and the helpful guy is the one who went back for those too.
When Sarah finally came back after seeing me start to stack our plates, I let her know the French onion soup was not good (mushy cheese with yucky flavor and the broth tasted like water), she was apologetic and able to remove it from our bill! I didn’t mention it to her but I should’ve—I was also extremely bothered by our soup and salad coming out just AFTER the entree. That’s not the order of how things should go and people shouldn’t sit that long without food at a place where they’re paying a lot of money to eat it. Hopefully this was just a case of a bad day for her and not the usual service to be expected at Gibbs.
This place was just not my vibe—I’ll mention the long walk to parking lot and having to take a huge flight of stairs to get to a bathroom for those it would matter too. It is for a combination of these reasons we won’t be back!!
Mooseheads down the street or JoJo Carloni’s are much better bets for small style restaurants in the area and both have pretty good consistency with food...
Read moreI've driven by this place more times than I can count. So when it came time for date night, it was finally time to check it out and I'm so glad we did.
Unbeknownst to me, Gibb's has an actual butcher shop in Olmsted Falls. When you set your Google map coordinates, make sure you're headed to the right spot (and don't blow past it like I did). The butcher shop supplies the meats for the restaurant and the flavors are insanely good. Their seasonal cocktail menu worked well for us; but if you're a craft beer or bourbon drinker, they have a wide selection as well. Any place you can get a Bacon Flight paired with a Bourbon Flight, is definitely a good find!
I'm a big fan of premium bologna and enjoy an occasional thick bologna sandwich. I was surprised to see it on the menu and couldn't resist. It was one of the best bologna sandwiches I've ever had. And it was so thick, half had to come home with me.
Everything about Gibb's was fun. Our server, Anita, took her time to explain the menu, the features, the history of the family butcher shop, and how the food was sourced. Before we left, she made sure to tell us to check out the second floor before we left. Up a narrow set of back stairs we left the country music and honky-tonk vibes of the first floor to find a whole separate bar on the second floor. Jimmy's Place Upstairs is a speakeasy-style cocktail bar that looks like something out of the Roaring 20's. We couldn't believe that whole thing was upstairs and there was really no clue down below. The two places have diametrically opposite, yet complimentary vibes. We will surely be back soon for a cocktail upstairs and more of the prime butcher shop inspired...
