Sunday brunch reunion with my cousin from NJ, whom I haven’t seen for over 2 years, was wonderful. I chose Anthony’s for our meet up due to the lovely location on the water. What a wonderful view from the table to the waterfront. The restaurant is clean, the glass is clean and the bathroom was impressive. Private stalls with their own sinks! Honestly, I am impressed with the goofiest things, but that sink in my nice, spacious stall made me happy! 😆 The service was excellent, from the initial hostess greeting, to the personable waitress, to the helpful busser. Very impressive. And finally: The Food. They start you off with a basket of blueberry coffee cake with honey butter. It was smashingly delicious! So much nicer than breadsticks! Sweet, warm with a hint of cinnamon….such a nice way to start off. The clam chowder creamy and tasty. My cousin order the Smoked Salmon Scramble and was well pleased. My Eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly, with a gorgeous portion of ham hidden under the perfectly prepared poached eggs. The fisherman’s potatoes that accompanied the plates were crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside, and seasoned well. Truly a great experience, both culinary and esthetically. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Olympia.
Additional review from dinner last night:
This is the second time I've been to Anthony's and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The restaurant is lovely, clean and has a beautiful view on the water. It makes for a gorgeous sunset view! The service is just as wonderful. From the hostesses at the door to the waitstaff and bussers. The attention to detail and service was top notch. My husband and I both got the three course meal for 33.00 each. He got the clam chowder to start, I got the Caesar salad. Both delicious. The clam chowder was creamy and thick with nice chunks of clam throughout. The salad was crisp, cold, fresh, and dressed perfectly with a delicious, lemony Caesar dressing. The accompanying basket of delicious, warm sourdough with herbed butter was a nice addition to the appetizers! It was hard to not fill up on that alone! We both chose the garlic shrimp for our main dish. It came with basmati rice and veggies. I asked for no rice and was offered mashed potatoes instead. I still opted for just veggies and was given a generous portion of perfectly sautéed broccolini. My husband switched to the mash and was pleased. The shrimp was excellent. Fresh, tasty and crisp...no mushy shrimp at all. We both chose the Bailey's Irish Creme Chocolate Mousse for dessert. Nice strong Irish creme flavor in the soft mousse. It wasn't too sweet, and a nice ending of a great meal. This was my husband's first time at Anthony's and he said he'd definitely come back again! That's a good review from him! Plus, the price was very good for a three course meal! On top of a kind, courteous waiter, Anthony's will definitely get our business again. Oh! Make sure to check out the bathroom! Sinks in the individual stall is a luxurious thing in my book! Clean bathrooms are...
Read moreService was welcoming and pleasant. Food was presented beautifully with satisfying portions and delicious flavors. The blackened halibut tacos tasted fresh and were seasoned wonderfully. The shrimp and crab toast was luscious and not at all greasy. The peach ice cream was peach forward and a delightful end to our meal.
Made reservations but still waited to be seated (New years Eve dinner, but what's the point of making reservations?) We ordered our drinks shortly after being seated but didn't even get our water until after the bread and calamari were served. The calamari were cooked well & not over breaded. The oysters (forgot picture) were not cleaned well (there was a lot of grit), and at least one wasn't cut loose from the shell. They forgot to give us a spoon or small fork for the oysters or mignonette (which tasted good). The bread was a fresh, warm loaf of sourdough. For my entree, I had the northwest duet of salmon & a crab cake. The salmon was perfectly cooked & i liked the sauce. The crab cake tasted ok. The sauce was really good, but the crab was lost (there was plenty of it, but I couldn't really taste it... I'm spoiled with Dungeness, lol.) Honey had the patagonian shrimp marinara with angel hair pasta, which tasted nice, but I think the pasta might have been just a minute over. Desserts, we had a huckleberry buckle and dark chocolate hazelnut truffles & a peppermintini. The buckle was tasty. The truffles were ok but had a bitter note, i think the hazelnuts were a bit over toasted. The peppermintini was strong. 😊 Got really cold in there waiting between courses. This used to be one of my favorite places to celebrate, but I was sadly disappointed tonight. I suppose it could be because of how busy they were, but now that my favorite server no longer works there, I doubt I will return. No one could replace Olivia, of that I am sure. Update: After my disappointment on New years Eve, management sent me a voucher for dinner for 2 so that I might give them another chance. I must say, it was definitely worth it. The Valentine's dinner, my love & I shared, will be remembered a long while. We had the oyster toast with champagne. The oysters were beautifully served & tasty. Then we got the Dungeness crab and shrimp artichoke dip for an appetizer & it was devine. For my entree, I enjoyed the wild Alaska king salmon & my love had the filet Oscar. The steak was so perfectly done that it ACTUALLY brought tears to his eyes. After, for dessert, we shared the burnt cream, and I must say it was one of the best creme Brule I have ever had (and I've had a lot). Honey enjoyed a hot buttered rum, and I tried what they called "beautiful," which was a cognac & Grand Marnier that I found delightful. I am very happy to say that our Valentine's Day (10th anniversary) dinner was a complete and thorough success. Our server James did a wonderful job & we will definitely...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to give this place a try to celebrate our anniversary and so I could finally use a gift card that I've been holding onto for months. For a place that seems "upscale" with a good sounding menu, we left feeling partially satisfied by the end of the night. Don't get me wrong, it was enjoyable and we didn't encounter any issues, however our experience was kind of mediocre in comparison to similar restaurants we've visited. This was one of those it was good to give this place a try but chances of us coming back seem unlikely.
I had placed a reservation online via OpenTable (great platform to use to reserve seats) so we were seated instantly when we arrived. The front staff, our waitress, and cooks were all kind and had great hospitality.
The menu has a decent selection of food to choose from. Fresh (and I mean VERY fresh) sourdough bread was brought to our table which was so good. We ordered the Dungeness crab dip to share and that was amazing; the portion looks small at first but honestly sharing it between my husband and I was just the right amount and the flavors were incredible. For our main meals I got the Alaskan cod and my husband ordered the 10 oz sirloin with tempura prawns. My plate was interesting, I thoroughly enjoyed the fish and the seasonal vegetables but the rice pilaf that came with it had pieces of pineapple and almonds which threw me off; wasn't a fan. My husband said his steak was a little overcooked from what he wanted it to be and it lacked some flavor, otherwise he still finished it and his tempura prawns were great. The amount of potatoes they had put on his plate initially was kind of a sad amount so he just requested for more.
The dessert options were great, and we ultimately went with the huckleberry creme brulee cheesecake and huckleberry slump. Both were so good; they had just the right amount of sweetness and the berries were a great touch.
Overall, I guess it depends on what you order. Their seafood options were great but I think how your order them in terms of what comes with the seafood kind of makes or breaks your...
