Went to this place on its first day open (we didn't realize that until we spoke to the chef). It is located close to 72nd on Pacific in one of the strip malls.
It's a beautiful bright and airy restaurant with lots of wood. Very comfortable place to sit The pricing of the food was reasonable for the portions you receive.
The server was new but very friendly and tried very hard to find all the answers for us. The chef came out and spoke to us to get our opinions. We did share some of our thoughts. I got the impression they are trying to listen and improve which I really appreciated. If we did have a problem they were quick, offering to comp the item. We told them not to but in the end they still did it.
Breakfast sandwich 11.49 4.5 stars Loved the crispy bacon on this. Bread was toasted nicely
Shrimp and grits 12.99 5 stars This would be my suggested item to order. I loved it, but it's more a sharing dish for me. I would get that and another breakfast for more flavors. It comes with 4 pieces of decent size shrimp.
Acapulco bene 10.99 3.5 stars The hollandaise broke and I didn't get much of an Acapulco vibe. The chorizo was much more bland that I didn't realize what it was while reading it It was ok but there are other items I liked or loved that this wouldn't be a pick for me
Sweet potato pancakes 11.49 3.5 stars this would go up for me if it wasn't doused on syrup first. I think it would appeal to those who love super sugary. The base flavor and texture of the pancake was good.
Southern omelet 11.49 4 stars I felt it was good. A solid option. The portion on this was massive. Good bang for your buck
Poptart strawberry 7.99 4 stars Have had a version I prefer elsewhere, but i liked it. It is a more grown up version but still very sweet. A massive better version than the regular. I'm just not as much into sweets so my preference leans towards it being with more fruit and less sugary. Great for people who want something ridiculous in size and love sugar.
The sides with each dish felt generous. Hash browns when served fresh are great but for longevity, the tots stayed better after sitting for awhile. Salad is nice and refreshing. Lightly dressed
My friend didn't like the breakfast Manhattan to the point he sent it back. I don't drink though so I'm not sure exactly why. He said the Nebraska plains mule was better. My peach blossom tea was great.
Service was 5 stars. There is the one stand out dish and there may be more that we can discover but for our first trip we ordered that many between two of us so we'll have to find out next time. I do have high hopes for this place since everything seemed executed pretty flawlessly for their first day.

Read moreVery boring, good staff, will not eat here again. Upon entering the restaurant I was bored by the non-descript contemporary pseudo-folk music and bright white walls decorated with fake plants and large uplifting writing on the wall. I don't usually judge my restaurants by ambiance, so I ordered the corned beef hash with poached (medium) eggs and a cup of coffee.
The coffee tasted like it was the third or forth pot brewed of same grounds, I mean bland, watery, mildly bitter, and utterly undrinkable. After the trying four sips I pushed it across the table and ignored it for the rest of my meal. When my meal came out I was happy to see that the corned beef hash was made in house and not from a can, but hardily disappointed when I tasted it. It was bland, like hospital food bland, and totally devoid of flavor or compelling textural contrasts. The poached eggs were not served medium, the first had a slightly translucent white and unset yolk--I would call it a soft or light poach. The second had a totally set yolk boarding on chalky-- I would say we're out of poached egg territory at this point. In both cases the poach missed the creamy goodness that one hopes for in a medium poached egg. I could forgive one way or the other as hitting the sweet spot requires real skill, especially in a short order setting, but service a pair of eggs one raw and the other rubber is unforgivable.
When the waitstaff asked how the food was, I said it was not to my taste, they offered to get me something else, and I declined. Had I have ordered pancakes, I would have paid and left because the food was not worth the calories; however, having a meat dish I could not disrespect the sacrifice of animal and I added salt to the dish hoping to open up its flavors. Alas, there was nothing to open up and the meal was just salted bland and miscooked.
Good Evans has a lot of favorable reviews, appeared clean, and the staff were friendly and professional. It is possible that I just ate there on a bad day. Perhaps there was some miscommunication and the forgot to change the coffee grounds and the cook was new in their career or viciously hungover, I do not know. Just the same, I will not be back after...
Read moreHighlights are the incredible service and the simple and well executed food at a good value. And all that at 9am on a Saturday.
I'll get the short list of negatives and things that could be subjectively seen as that out of the way first. The atmosphere is like pretty much all family breakfast spots, decor is plain and it's loud with conversation. I personally like the lively atmosphere, but it's not a quiet breakfast spot. The only actual complaints I have was that the biscuit on my Cajun Bene could have been a little crisper for some nice texture, but the snappy sausage and shrimp made up for it. And then my poached egg was quite overdone, more of an over-medium texture. Still delicious.
On to the positives. I cannot stress enough that my service was probably a top 5 service experience I've had, and the others came from very expensive places. My waitress (who's name I am kicking myself for not writing down) was so kind and friendly. She provided great service and menu insights. She was attentive with refills and clearing plates, but gave us room to enjoy our meal without overbearing. Worth every penny of a nearly 50% tip, and thinking back I should have probably tipped more. Downright incredible service. Now for the food. The menu is concise and well planned. Classic breakfast foods, some fun and exciting options that make it worth it to go back and try new things. Everything is a good value, great sized portions for the money leaving me full, but not taking 3 or 4 meals of leftovers home. Everything was seasoned well and the unique flavors of my Cajun Bene were shining. Everything we had was delicious with good textures and was great for the price. We were seated quickly, given a highchair for our daughter and the place was surprisingly clean for how busy it was. Their team there seems to be full of great people who were trained well. To wrap it up, my family will be back and recommending Good Evans to our friends. And if the resturaunt can somehow figure out who my server was on Sept. 30, please let her know that she...
