They have very good food. The rice is very wet. It feels like they dumped the rice in a lot of water and then cooked it that way. I'm normally used to rice that's balanced with the water, i.e. the kind that's at least 2 cups water and 1 cup rice. That's how hispanics usually cook it. But the Greek style is fascinating too. I think they put olive oil in the rice too, but I can't tell. My biggest problem with it was the lack of salt. So I had to salt it myself. It's fine that I do it, but some of the flavour is watered down due to the rice being heavily watery.
The chicken was good too. The mix of red and green peppers with onions worked very well. Again, salt was a major problem. The chicken was slightly dry, so dipping some of the olive oil on top helped it a bit, but it looks like they cooked it in a hurry. I don't think the cook cooked it with as much care as he could have. It still tasted very good.
I didn't really think the rice soup was all that good. I don't know what it was. Salt was a problem, yes. But there was so much flavour that I couldn't tell which direction to go with it. It seemed a little strange. This one is harder to pin point where the best parts or good parts are. I know the rice didn't help it. I guess the "mystery" feel made it taste like a mess. Is the soup chicken? Is it beef? Who knows.
Now the biggest problem for any restaurant: unclean plates. The waitress brought me an unclean plate. That's gross. And all I could think was whether the rest of the...
Read moreWent there with my wife for dinner. Took an hour to get our food. After 15 minutes, we ordered and had our salad. 45 minutes went by, and the waitress didn't come up to us once. We pulled aside another waitress and said we're leaving because we've been there an hour and hadn't been served. She looked over at the counter and said our food was ready. I'm not sure if our waitress ghosted us or if that's how long it typically takes. If you are hungry don't go here. If you want to sit for an hour and be ignored, this is the place for you. The picture of the restaurant is how it was when we were there. They weren't even busy at all. We did see others get seated and served before we did, but they had a different waitress who seemed very friendly, ours not so much at all. Potatoes were good, and the wife and I ate all of the gyro platter we ordered. Not trying to downtalk the place or say the food wasn't good, but when that was our first experience there, it was not a good one. They did give us the smallest sliver of baklava for the wait. My wife had one bite, and I had one, and it was gone. With all the restaurants in Omaha, I don't think I'll return...
Read moreUpon entering, I was promptly greeted by the exceptionally friendly staff. I ordered a regular gyro to-go and was offered a table while I waited. Even while moderately busy (during peak lunch hours as well) I had barely sat down before I was being handed my food. They were really quick. As soon as I got in my car the smell tempted me to try a bite before I left and well.. I guess I should have ordered dine-in because I ate the whole thing right there like an animal. The only complaint I had is honestly one that I never thought I would have anywhere. This place does NOT skimp on portion sizes. You definitely get your money's worth of food plus some. That was kind of the issue though. My gyro came with almost an absurd amount of meat. Not normally a complaint of mine, but for gyros where I like to taste a little bit of everything in every bite, the large quantity of meat was overwhelming. Nevertheless I pulled a few pieces out and then basically swallowed the thing whole it was so good. So, to conclude, this place is awesome and definitely have some great gyros, just consider maybe asking them to go a little light on...
