Penn Station is the best! I have been a fan for over 10 years and was so excited when they finally came to Omaha and have eaten at the west omaha location quite a few times.
We don't go too often anymore because we try to limit eating out and processed foods, so deciding to go tonight was a splurge.
My husband and I split a small sandwich, (800 calories, so enough for 2 people) and a small fry. The cashier tried to explain that they don't cut small sandwiches in half, only bigger ones, and I must want a bigger one. We asked again and she agreed to cut it in half.
When the food arrived at our table there was a remarkably small amount of meat and veggies on the sandwich. I order the exact same thing every time so I know that it is not normal to see the bread through sparse meat.
We talked to the manager and she explained that they weighed the meat and told me everyone else must just put too much meat on but she was going by weight and did it correctly. I was annoyed but accepted the answer and went on to try a fry. It was luke warm and starchy. Penn Station literally has the best fries because they are always made fresh. They drop the basket when you order. These definitely weren't fresh.
So we decided to ask for a refund. It was supposed to be a treat and I wasn't going to enjoy any of this food. At that, the manager said she would remake all of the food personally.
The remade food was great. The meat was still a little sparse but I could deal with that with fresh fries.
The only other guy who was in the restaurant started talking to us about how much he loved Penn Station as well, and doesn't have one where he lives so he stops every time he is through town. He also felt like he got half the amount of meat as normal. He decided to ask about the meat situation and the manager explained again to him that she weighed it and it was the proper amount of meat. We are the only 3 customers in the store, so he definitely had heard me complain and pressed that it wasn't normal. The manager didn't offer to remake his sandwich, said under her breathe that maybe she should check the scale that weighs the meat, and just walked away from him.
Again, I normally love this meal, but the manager did such a bad job of handling this situation which obviously had some validity to it. It left us deciding that it was worth driving over to the other locations in the future and to avoid this one.
Hopefully this helps someone else find a location that will give them the true Penn...
Read morethis location always impresses me. i have not had a bad experience since i started coming here almost a year ago. the quality of the food never disappoints. always hot, fresh and well prepared. while i usually order takeout online, i was even more pleased by the in store experience tonight. the woman who i presume to be the manager came to check on us and share solidarity about a recent less-than-superb experience we had at the bellevue location. she said she even trained them. it's unfortunate they can't seem to match the quality of food she puts out. we will always come back to the dodge street location from now on. the genuine care and pride the team puts into each guest's experience does not go unnoticed. this team deserves a raise if you ask me! thank you guys for taking such good care of us &...
Read moreI have eaten at this establishment four or five times now Penn Station is my wife’s favorite sandwich shop which you’ll see many of these located in Ohio Michigan and Pennsylvania so we’re excited to see them start coming into Nebraska and Kansas City area The food is fresh. In my opinion I like it better than Jersey Mike’s. This particular location is very clean. Their customer service service oriented, and the food is always been very good.
Only complaint it’s really not a complaint but a concern as it’s in the back part of a little shopping plaza so you have to know it’s here You’re not gonna see it from the road of course the concern is not enough. People will support it.
So hopefully they’re advertising once people come here to eat. They will come back. Wish we had...
