Clearly a direct competitor with Raising Caine’s, the similarities between the two are strong. Where Caine’s gets it wrong and Guthrie’s excels is in the execution of the central item - the chicken …sort of a big deal! Where Caine’s tends to cook their chicken BARELY to temperature, leaving it too wet and slimy, the chicken here was at that perfect state where the fat is properly rendered but the meat is not dried out. It was absolutely delicious! All the flavors were on point. The fries were browned and crispy. The coleslaw was oddly dense, but tasted great. If I could give zero stars I would unfortunately I had to give one. I ordered a meal with crispy fries, when I received my food, my fries was not as requested. After waiting several minutes for crispy fries my food was returned and my chicken was cold. To avoided delays in the drive thru I parked and went inside where I was greeted by the manger. I explained my issue and he tells me it was because they had to wait on my fries, and that I was not at a restaurant where I could order food to be prepared special order. I was in the mood for some chicken so I drop in on the Gutherie’s in Opelika, on highway 280 toward Columbus, GA. I was shock back the lack of options on the menu but I assumed it meant that they perfected the items they serve. The chicken was delicious, specially with the side of Texas toast. The box meal comes with 5 chicken fingers, fries, toast, slaw, and Gutherie’s custom sauce. I would have preferred barbecue sauce but it would have been an extra charge.
