I'm going to be in the minority here, and that's ok. The food was just not up to expectations for a restaurant with the level of accolades it has been previously given.

First, the service was great. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable, and the food came at a good pace. The restaurant itself was lovely, parking was easy. It was hot as could be inside, but the kitchen is in the middle of the dining area so I'm sure it's difficult to manage temperature. My only complaint is they didn't come back terribly often to fill water and the cups were tiny, but that is pretty minor.

Next, the good parts of the food :The crab dip was wonderful-solid amount of seafood, and the wonton chips with sweet chili drizzle were a perfect combination with the creaminess of the dip. The chai pear salad was bursting with flavor. Slightly overdressed, but that's my personal preference. This salad was truly a flavor highlight.

This is where it gets a little 'meh' for me.

We had the table salad, which leaned heavily acidic in the dressing and was otherwise standard. The dinner rolls were quite salty, but had good flavor and frankly might have been better with some butter to compensate for the salt, but these were fine. The fries were good--piping hot.

The mushrooms, Mac and Cheese, and squash sides were so incredibly heavily salted we couldn't eat much at all. And y'all, I'm a salt fan, but when it's so heavy you can't eat it, it's pretty disappointing. I will say the mushrooms COULD have been amazing. The underlying flavors were there and the sweet pop of the prunes would have been an incredible contrast to the umami but THE SALT. I brought them home and am going to try to do something with them, but as is, we didn't eat much at the restaurant. Same with the Mac-flavors were there and the fried onions on top were a great touch, but the salt... Oh, the salt. And the squash was fine, nothing to write home about, but by that point my palate was pretty wrecked.

I give props for creativity and menu variety, however, balance between sweet-salt-acid-fat is critical, and this was not well executed for a significant portion of our meal. And honestly, for the price point it was pretty...

We eat at Canard in Oregon City about every month. The past 4 times we’ve had the same server who is absolutely excellent. All servers have been wonderful.

We walked in Sunday about 5:45. We got a table right away in the window by the overhead AC unit; it was hot out - 88°. The AC unit overhead could not keep up with cooling. On previous occasions it’s been warm sitting in that area but not like this. In looking around 2/5 of the AC heads were not on, looked broken. We moved to next table away from window and it was slightly better but still quite warm. The server couldn’t comment about the AC, but was seen having to rigorously herself several times. She was very busy & I felt very sorry for her. She apologized.

The drinks were wonderful- spot on. Chicken Dijon probably the best chicken breast ice had & potatoes were excellent. Dinner salad looked lovely. Oeufs en Mayonnaise (on the house) we’re fabulous. Fried chicken on Cobb salad was dry. Garlic Fries were fantastic. Lamb ribs very over cooked to the point of not been able to be cut. Our guest had to tear of the bark, discard it & try to pick off bits of meat. When server checked back (she’s was very busy) our guest had picked thru & torn apart as much as she could, but one piece was too dry & hard to cut or tear.

Our server graciously offered to bring her something else, but we we’re almost finished eating so she declined.

We didn’t order dessert as by then it was way too hot & we were pretty over the situation.

Our server also brought us complementary soft serve. Very thoughtful.

Also 5 of our plates or bowls had large (not minor) chips off the edges. I’ve never seen this happen so frequently & never here before!

This has been a fantastic restaurant. I was so disappointed when we brought our guests here for an expected spectacular experience & it was so haphazard. All of the service was spot on especially for as busy as it was.

I’m can’t believe that the restaurant has not been given the attention & care it deserves.

Please bring back the previous Canard! We were there just last month, how could it...

Update 4/12/2024 Went back to give the place another try and what do you know, first dish to hit the table had a fat chip on the rim. New photo added. Seriously. Throw these chipped dishes away, or buy some dinnerware with a chip warranty and get these replaced. This isn't a good look.

Original review: I walked into Canard with high hopes, but left feeling a little let down. The staff was very friendly, and allowed us to move our outdoor seating reservation to an indoor table at 6:45p on a Saturday. Everyone who served us at the table was accommodating and nice.

I ordered the Oeufs en Mayonnaise, and they were good if not overly bacon-forward. But this made them more palatable for my wife who's not a fan of roe. However, there was a large chip on plate. As the waitress was taking the empty dish away, I politely informed her of the chip so they can take the plate out of service, whatever, it happens. Maybe no one saw it yet.

But the VERY NEXT dish that arrived at our table was a bowl of Foie Gras Dumplings with a large chip on the rim! This chip couldn't have been missed, the bowl was dark in color and the porcelain interior was off-white. I thought maybe she did it on purpose even though I was so polite about it the first time. All that said the dumplings were amazing. A little pricey for 4 small dumplings, but delicious. I ended up dipping other dishes into the broth because it was so good. I do recommend them, but definitely get more food to go with.

My friend across the table ordered the Mac & Cheese, and you guessed it, the bottom serving dish had a large chip! Now it felt personal lol. I never mentioned the additional chips, as it just became something to laugh about around the table. It didn't detract from the quality of the food itself.

To sum, staff was very friendly, the food was great, but the dinnerware had some issues. Small gripe, but not an issue I'd expect from a place charging these prices.

Take the plates out of service and ask your dealer if there's a manufacture warranty against...

I would start by saying that this is by far the best restaurant option in Oregon City. The staff is knowledgeable, understand, wine pairing, understands their menu and can make real recommendations. We started with Oeufs En Mayonnaise, which were absolutely delectable. Have you have ever eaten a food item after someone perfectly described how the food would hit your palate? I could eat these 7 days a week. The next dish was the Foie Gras Dumplings with Black Truffle (the black truffle is extra, do it, it's worth every penny). Each bite is balanced, you can taste every element. Again, like the Oeufs, perfectly executed. Next up, (not pictured) we had the Mac & Cheese. It was excellent, creamy, cheesy, salty. Everything you would expect it to be. Last we had the Duck Stack with the Seared Foie Gras (again the Foie Gras is an extra cost on this dish, but... so good). This was absolutely fabulous. It paired excellent with the recommended red wine, the pancakes stood up to the gravy beautifully and did not get soggy in any way. Again, this dish was executed perfectly, and you could taste every element in every bite. This restaurant is a must, I would drive miles to eat here. If I could give it a sixth star, I would.
