Charlie's Mountain View — Restaurant in Oregon

I have to write a review because after seen the response to my sisters review, I can tell either the server is lying or the owner/manager is lying when responding about what really happened. First, when we got there, I asked for the table while my family was still taking photos outside, we had family visiting from Mexico. When I got there with my baby and husband ALL the tables were dirty and only one table was taken. The server asked how many people I said 10 and 2 babies, and she sent someone to clean the table right away, while I waiting more people starting to come in into the restaurant, including the rest of my family. She took us to our table with only 8 chairs, so we grab couple more chairs from one of the many empty tables and sat to and started looking at the menus. We noticed the restaurant quickly started getting full and busy, but we kept waiting. We make sure everyone on the table was ready to order for whenever the server came back to take our order... but time kept passing, she was taking orders in the new tables, people from the new tables was already eating, and she just never came to our table to even ask if we wanted something to drink. I asked my sister if she could tell the server if she could come and take our order since we were ready at this point was already past 7:15pm at least 45min waiting for the server to come to our table. She came so my sister order for everyone since she was the closest to the server and order for the family from Mexico which they don't speak the language. We all ordered waters, I got a diet coke, and my husband and brother in-law ordered coke. The sodas were flat and I made the comment and she did not care or said anything about it, she brought one pitcher full of ice and water and cups for everyone but it was only enough water for 4 cups so my sister saw that she was busy and by herself got up and ask for more water, and the server seemed upset and with bad attitude gave us more water. We kept waiting and waiting and just talking within our table. At this point was almost 9pm and my husband wanted to leave because we had to drive back to Salem and he had to work next day. I told my husband lets ask how much longer on the food before we decided to cancel our plate. So, my brother in-law called the server and nicely asked, do you how much longer? and the server said ON WHAT? he said on our food, is been a long time. she said ON THE FORTY PLATES YOU ORDERED, so my sister said, what did you say? she responded, YOU ORDERED A LOT FOOD, AND YOU KNOW WHAT I AM DONE WITH THIS TABLE, My sister asked why? she responded because you are being SASSY, AND I AM NOT SERVING THIS TABLE. So, we all got up and started leaving, she came back saying your food is ready if you still want it and we said no thank you, so she was standing at the entrance saying have a good night to every single one of us. She acted like we were the ones that decided to leave when she told us to leave by saying that she was done with us and not serving us. We only had 3 conversations with her in the entire night from 6:30ish to almost 9pm. We just sat there to see how she took orders and watched other people eat that arrived way after we got there. People did not appologized to her for our attitude, people from other tables apologized to us for the way she treated us, even the table right next to us said she was so rude and probable racist and that is why she was ignoring us the entire time we were there. If the owner wants to believe the server version that is okay with us, I just wanted to take the time and tell the true story and the facts that actually happened. I had an experience at Charlie's Mountain View last Friday when I had my in-laws visiting from Florida. My wife wanted a bottle of wine; therefore, we bought a bottle from the convenience store across the street We poured it into cups and was going to sit outside and drink it before heading home. We had no intention of going into an establishment with our drinks. However, my father in law decided he wanted to go into the bar that was across the street and get himself a drink, so we went with him. The server saw our cups and told us we weren't allowed to have outside beverages, which is understandable. We had to use the restroom anyway so we went and did our business and threw away our cups (what the server asked) and went back to the table. As they were having their drinks, I noticed that the servers take a CONSIDERABLE amount of time serving females while getting to the male patrons very quickly. (My wife included tried to get a drink at the bar but got the cold shoulder until all of the men at the bar were served first.) This was my one and only time bringing in outside alcohol. Again, we had intended to drink it while sitting outside. My in-laws had their drinks and we left to go Cosmic Tubing.

After tubing, we decided to go back to the bar. One of the servers (very RUDELY) approached our table. I had a smile on my face because I thought she was coming to our table to take our order. Instead, she immediately started ranting about how they found the wine in the trash (we did what she asked and disposed of it, again we understand why, no big deal.) But she was very rude at explaining why she couldn't serve us and how we shouldn't have done that. I was so shocked at the way she handled the situation. I was taken back. She was looking at my father-in-law while yelling at us and he said to not look at him because it was not his situation. That upset the server more, and on her way back to the bar, she started slamming chairs up against the table behind us. My question is why? Why did she go trash diving and sift through the trash can in a BATHROOM?

I understand that she couldn't serve us because we brought in outside alcohol. We would have left in a kind manner, but she made a scene in the bar that caused every other patron in the bar to turn and look at us. This was embarrassing and there was no call for it. However, as someone myself, who spent 17 years in hospitality, bar, and restaurant management (thank goodness, I haven't been in years as I am now a business owner), I can say that the way she handled the situation and the way she couldn't compose herself, was EXTREMELY wrong and rude. She COULD have handled the situation with composure. Her attitude tells me that she has no business whatsoever working in hospitality, customer service, or anything to do with customers. She doesn't know how to handle difficult situations in a positive way.

Because of her rudeness, inability to handle pressure, and not wanting to take care of female patrons in the same way as male patrons, we will not be back to this establishment and will tell our entire hiking meet up group to stay away from this bar when...

Never had a more terrible experience than this restaurant. Once seated it took our server more than 20 minutes just to finally make it to our table just to get our drinks going. In the mean time, she did bring us water but gave us these small clear plastic cups that had a weird dishwasher taste/smell to them. Once we ordered our food we waited, waited and waited some more... After an hour and half later I finally had to get our waitresses attention to politely ask her where we were at with our food and how long we’ve been waiting for and she replied in a snappy tone “it’s on its way and that we’re fighting with orders from the bar” and walked off. She never once came to our table to give us an update on our food in the first place and never informed us in advanced on how long it would take for our food. We finally received our food where I was in complete shock! (Get ready for the long list of issues) The waiter forget my sauerkraut completely for my beer bratwurst. Everyone at our table ordered mashed potatoes and instead they served us all a baked bacon potato and never ended up fixing it. The beer bratwurst I ordered was undercooked, completely bland with a slight touch of uncooked bratwurst juice that would explode in your mouth. My friend ordered the prime rib that looked nothing even close to prime rib should. It was this weird gray thin slab of meat that looked like what was a make shift pork chop but also undercooked with deep pink in the middle. It didn’t even taste like anything close to prime rib. To top it off, my wife ordered the rib eye which again, didn’t even look like a rib eye. My wife asked them to cook it medium well and when she cut into it the inside was completely raw with deep red. I ended up flagging the waiter down to at least inform her about the rib eye not being cooked properly and she said she would take it back to have them try and re cook it correctly. With how bad our service was all ready and how terrible the overall food was that we couldn’t even eat, I ended up finding her and letting her know to not worry about the rib eye and that we didn’t want it. This was the first time I knew I was going to have to inform a waitress that we were not satisfied with the service and food and that we weren’t going to pay until she quickly dropped of the check. I then ended up asking for the manager and informed her of our terrible experience which she was kind enough to completely comp our food. Ended up walking out with empty stomachs, very shocked of the experience, extremely slow service and very poor quality in food/care in proper cooking.
