Tried this place for dinner & the food was unique, however, the table was a little dirty and had to move to another (see image). I ended up getting sick in the middle of the night with a case of the splatters, so I called them back to let them know the following day as it was after business hours.
The call was screened by a young man that asked “Why, what do you want to talk to the manager about?” I explained, and before being handed off to the owner he reassured me that it’s normally quite clean.
I shared that I think I got sick from either mishandling the food, or from a contaminated table. Most likely from the large bottle of community shared sriracha sauce that was well used & almost empty.
I ordered the following: avocado smoothie, pastel catupire (chicken and cream cheese), and a classic beef esfihas. My bill was $20, which seems about right.
Everything had nice mellow flavor, except for the chicken which had a distinctive metallic taste to it, a bit like mechanical processing similar to the taste in canned tuna. It must have been from a can packed in brine with the same preservatives, just a guess. But the flavor, and soft pillowy to crispiness texture of the pastry was absolutely perfect! (see image)
The slightly green smoothie taste like a more liquidity mellowed out vanilla with the smallest hint of avocado. It was very refreshing, but I couldn’t taste the avocado at all honestly. I tried with my eyes closed, and then with my nose pinched to be sure. I knew it was in there, but it was not a dominant part enough to alter the flavor or even taste it.
*The owner invited me back for a full refund. I just wanted them to know that I got sick, and maybe the tables need to be cleaned a little better, paying special attention to cleaning the condiment bottles as well. This was such a respectful, and honorable gesture, but doesn't fix the dirty table &...
Read moreI love finding Brazilian restaurants here in Utah! My first time at Sweet Avocado was awesome. I ordered a bit of everything to give you a detailed review!
Food:
Brazilian waffle cheese bread was 10/10! What a fun and yummy redemption to the classic! It was just crispy enough on the outside and chewy enough on the inside (which is what I expect from a pao de queijo)
Coxinha 6.5/10 It's such a classic Brazilian Salgado that it's hard to make it bad! You will love these! It's deep-fried dough with shredded chicken + cream. The only reason I scored it this low is due to the inside being a bit cold (unfortunately, it happens when you're frying them up).
Risole 5/10 This one was my bad as I'm not a fan of ham anything and thought it was a cheese only risole. I'm glad I've got to try it out, and if you're into ham+cheese, you will like these!
Pastel 10/10 Oh my! I tried the sherreded chicken with catupiry cream! Delicious! Highly recommended! It made me feel like I was in Brazil.
Esfihas 10/10
Are you kidding me? I've been trying to find Esfihas in Utah, and it's unheard of. Please go try these! Another classic from Brazil. I personally liked the classic, such as cheese, Nutella, Romeo + Juliet, and shredded chicken. You're going to really enjoy how light and airy the dough is and how different each topping is. Yumm!
Service:
I love going to Brazilian restaurants because I get to speak Portuguese and find out what part of Brazil they are from. They were a brother and sister duo from Sao Paulo and gave me great customer service, and I felt very welcome!
Atmosphere:
Everything was super clean, loving the branding. And decor!
PS: If you read through this whole review and aren't sure about what you should get, I highly recommend you get the waffle cheese bread, a pastel, one esfiha, and a Guarana! If you have a sweet tooth, get the...
Read moreFirst time customer and I am very pleased! Wanted a quick bite in the area while making a delivery, but did not want standard "chain fast food." Online reviews and posts said good things so I stopped in.
I absolutely agree, Sweet Avacado is excellent. The building has a simple design with simple decor. The outside and inside is very clean and well maintained. The lighting is perfect with a pleasant atmosphere. The aroma of cooked food is enjoyable while you're waiting.
The gentleman working today was very polite and attentive, offering a quick but thorough explanation of what hot items were available and what he could prepare if I needed something else. Customer service: Excellent.
Food: I honestly cannot recall the name of these things I'm eating...but they're great lol... lightly battered "things" from the case on the counter....one chicken "ball," one beef, and one ham & cheese... whatever they're called, they're very simple and satisfying. Happy to have something hot to eat that isn't messy or over complicated. I can only imagine the rest of their menu will be on the same level. Meal: simple/Excellent!
To Sweet Avacado: When you read this, have...
