I frequent the chocolate usually 2X/month. It offers some delectable baked treats, which are often hard to find in Provo. Here is a review of different options:
First off - the always-available cake flavors:
Yellow cake with milk chocolate frosting: in general I like this cake quite a bit. As long as you let the cake come to room temperature. Often when I've gotten it, it has been cold for some reason - like they froze it and it hadn't quite thawed to room temperature. It's unfortunate to eat it this way because the milk chocolate ganache separates from the cake rather than being silky smooth and sticking to each bite. My recommendation is to pick up the cake in the afternoon, leave it on your counter and eat it after dinner.
White cake with Vanilla Buttercream: This was okay, but rather bland. You may be thinking "it's vanilla with vanilla, one would expect for it to be bland" - but I was looking for a deeper vanilla flavor and softer/lighter cake.
Chocolate cake with milk chocolate frosting. This is probably the Chocolate's best cake. It's moist, light, and the chocolate frosting is delicious. Same goes for this cake as the yellow cake - make sure you've bought a slice a few hours in advance so you can make sure it comes to room temperature before you eat it. It makes a world of difference.
Chocolate cake with dark chocolate frosting/ganache: Normally I would love this, but the ganache/frosting is always too hard. I haven't gotten it soon enough to let it warm up a bit, but if so, it'd probably be fantastic.
Rotating/Seasonal Cake Flavors: -Chocolate raspberry: This is chocolate cake with a thin layer of ganache and raspberry buttercream. The chocolate cake is moist, light, and delicious. The buttercream tastes like plain buttercream and it's almost impossible to detect any raspberry flavor. If you go in with the expectation of a chocolate cake with a vanilla buttercream you'll like it. Just don't expect raspberry.
-Hummingbird: This is a banana-pineapple cake with cream cheese frosting. I was a bit disappointed with this one as I typically love banana cake. The cake was a bit dry and on the bready side. It was also very bland - you could hardly detect any banana or pineapple flavor. The cream cheese frosting was good, but that's all you could taste. Would not recommend.
Eggnog cake: I was excited about this flavor as it's unusual and my husband loves eggnog. It was a big on the bready side as well, but the frosting was good and in general was a fun holiday-time experience.
Brownies: I've purchased mint brownies twice. The first time was SO good. The brownie itself was really fudgy and dense, topped with a healthy dose of peppermint buttercream. However, the second time I purchased the brownie it was dry and the buttercream just fell off the brownie. My guess is that the first brownie had been baked the day I ate it and was really fresh. The second brownie was probably atleast a few days old and was dried out. If you get one of these fresh, they're amazing - maybe go as far as asking what day it was baked.
Cazookie: I've gotten the chocolate chip Cazookie here a few times and it never disappoints. Hot and melty with a scoop of icecream on top, it's a...

I was ready to never return to the Chocolate, but with customer care and service like this, they’ve won my family back. We will definitely be returning with the confidence that if they make a mistake, they’ve will make it right. That’s good business and I wish more places put a focus on the customer’s experience. Highly recommend grabbing a treat at this bakery next time you’re around.
(Original review) —We usually love getting cake from the Chocolate. My wife and I ordered our wedding cake from here and get slices whenever we are in town. While our wedding cake had a minor issue with order compared to what was received, we haven’t had too many issues here until today. We ordered my daughter’s birthday cake over a week ago for pick up today. It was set for a pickup at 12 to be at her party on time. We ordered the unicorn cake, I believe the medium size (which was about $73!!!) I sent my sister to pick up the cake at 12 and she was told it was not ready, that there was an issue with the decoration of the cake and they needed to fix it. I then called in to see if it was ready a little while later. It was ready so I came in to pick it up. I found nobody behind the counter. I waited, called out, and waited some more. Finally I found the worker was cleaning in the back with headphones in. She was startled by me and then upon request handed me the cake and put her headphones back in. No comment about it being late, no apology, nothing. Upon getting the cake back to the party I noticed that the ears of the unicorn while being described on the site as being made from sugar cookies, were made of plastic and looked nothing like the ones pictured on the site. In addition to this we found the eyes of the unicorn to be sloppy and not as neat as we expected from the picture and for the price. We cut into the cake and began eating only everyone kept spitting out the colored frosting for the unicorn hair. It was salty!! Not in a salty sweet way, more in a added salt instead of sugar way. It was disgusting! Beyond this the cake had clumps of what seemed like burnt flour scattered across the bottom of the layers. We ended up throwing most of it in the trash. All of this and we paid $73?? We will not be returning and I recommend you skip this shop in your event planning. Don’t waste your money on something that will disappoint on your special day....
Read moreI have wanted to come here ever since they opened and finally got the chance last night (12/16/19 @ 9:30pm). We specifically came in for hot chocolate since we’d been out in the cold but also ordered a cazookie. The two stars are for the cazookie because it was excellent. The hot chocolate tasted like water. Upon receiving it I immediately took it back to the kitchen and informed them of the issue and asked them to remake it, the person who took it back looked at me like I was crazy but didn’t say much. We received new cups only to have the exact same issue. We were pretty much done eating our cazookie at that point so I decided to take the still watery hot chocolate back on our way out. You could tell the workers just wanted to be gone, which I can understand. But in my mind there were a number of ways to fix the situation. 1) return a drinkable cup of hot chocolate. 2) give us a refund. Or 3) reimburse us with some other confection, it was closing time and from what I know about baked goods anything left in the display case was destined for the garbage can anyway. The response I got was “that’s just how our machine made it, that’s just the way it tastes.” Really?! With a name like “the chocolate” your hot chocolate is supposed to taste like water?! I doubt it. So we left. From other recent reviews it sounds like the staff need heavy training on what good customer service looks like. Despite the delicious cazookie I won’t be anxious to return.
UPDATE: Brett reached out immediately, refunded the offending hot chocolates and went above and beyond with a gift card to rectify the situation. So happy to see someone care so much about their customer experience and I am reassured that this situation won’t...
