I have been coming here quite regularly for a few years now. Today was the final straw! Our food was so beyond spicy (and we like spicy) that me nor my husband could even eat our food. My husband ordered the lamb curry and I ordered the chicken masala, medium. We usually order spice level at a medium but this time it was extreme. The manager offered to take it back that the “lot of chilis were very hot this time” and add mild sauce over it. It unfortunately did not change a thing. We asked if they would please replace the food, but they refused. They said we needed to pay because they would lose money and literally argued with us at our table about this. Including the fact that we received the wrong bread (garlic naan) and he said we would have to pay for the correct one (cheese naan)”. The manager then went to get the owner, but after 10-15 minutes of waiting and not touching our food, we just walked to the register to pay for the appetizer we did eat. The owner never came and the manager said he was in a class. He then proceeded to text him in front of us and said that if we didn’t pay then it would have to come out of his/ the managers pocket! What a joke! We have also come 30 minutes before closing and they told us we cannot eat there that they were closing. There was another time that the server was so rushed and rude to us, continually looking at his phone and asking if we would go ahead and pay (before closing time), that we asked him if he had somewhere to be and that it was really ruining our dining experience. He simmered down slightly after but it was just one of the many times we vowed to never return. No matter the food quality, the service is so awful, I would not support a business owner that treats his repeat customers...
Read moreDecided to try a new Indian restaurant tonight. I went to try Kohinoor in Orem. It was busy so that was a good sign. Since it was packed, I justed wanted to do a to go order. But my first red flag should have been what the waiter said. I asked for a type of naan and he said that was too hard of a dish for the chef to make. What?!?!? Then why is it on the menu. The next thing he said really bug me and he said, oh, the chef is too busy to make that. Seriously?!?!? But hey, I want to at least try something to review tonight so I didn't want to venture too far from the familiar.
I ordered the Kohinoor Mix Kabob. It was the biggest chunks of chicken not in a kabob style at all. The "lamb" you can see shriveled up on the left which looked like some sort of ground lamb sausage instead of a cubed piece of meat. The chicken tandoori and chicken tikka could have been cut in quarters from the pieces that I got. The shrimp was good and the chicken was a bit dry.
The chicken tikka masala, well, I asked for very hot. Compared to India Palace's spice level it would be a 5 or mild there. Also why was it so sweet? The chicken in this was completely dried out. The sauce helped a bit, but a chunk of dried chicken instantly kills the palette.
I was very disappointed, but I don't waste food, so I have some disappointing leftovers for tomorrow. Would I come back? Probably not, maybe I'll give them 6-8 months to get things in order and hopefully the chef knows how to cook everything by then.
The garlic naan is alright. Barely any garlic flavor to it at all. The rice they gave me enough to feed a few people. Good thing rice is my staple. At least they got the rice right.
