A well-balanced meal is a slice in both hands. 🍕
We've been ordering pizza from Anthony's in Thornton Park for a couple of years now because their crust is amazing, but this was our first time dining in, and we really enjoyed our overall experience. Good food and friendly service. 👍
We started with a couple of items from their happy hour menu: Crispy Fried Ravioli and Spinach & Artichoke Dip. The marinara dipping sauce for the ravioli was very well-balanced, with just enough sweetness to tone down the acid. It was so good. The Spinach dip was also delicious. It was so creamy and rich, and the flavor reminded us of broccoli and cheese soup. It was served with homemade Crostinis that didn't break when scooping the hearty dip. 🥖
We got 2 small pies that we had never ordered from there before. Our absolute favorite and our new go-to was the Upside Down Pizza (provolone cheese, pizza sauce, crushed red pepper, fresh chopped garlic, finished with basil, pamesan cheese, and olive oil). The contents were so well distributed that every bite was heavenly. The garlic was not bitter at all, The crushed red pepper provided the right amount of heat without overpowering the other flavors, and the basil gave it a notable freshness. Yum! We can't wait to eat this pizza again. 🍕🧀🧄🌶
Since we had never tried their pastas, we got the Lemon Herb Blackened Shrimp Pasta (white wine sauce) and the Sausage Primavera. The white wine and lemon combination was a little too tart for our palate, but we devoured the Sausage Primavera. It was creamy and well-seasoned, and the sausage complemented it perfectly. Each pasta came with 2 tasty garlic knots. 🍝
If you've never been to Anthony's, check them out during happy hour. They offer tasty, discounted appetizers everyday, but the drinks on special and the happy hour times change by day, so check out their website for more info on that. We went on a Monday and got yummy $5 sangrías! 🍷🍒
If you're just ordering take-out or delivery, there's a perk there, too. You get an Anthony's magnet with every order, and once you've collected 10, you get a free large cheese pizza. Free 🍕 = 😁
Make sure to order from the location in Thornton Park. We made the mistake of ordering from the one on Colonial that is not affiliated with them (we didn't know at the time), and we regretted it.

Read moreSo I've been on a journey to explore all of the best restaurants in Orlando, and according to the readers of Orlando Weekly, Anthony's Thornton Park offered some of the best pizza in town in the year of 2020. So I had to come check it out. I did my Friday routine of getting off work, driving by for take-out, and eating it at home while watching The Mandalorian.
Just as a disclaimer, I went here a few months ago and just haven't been able to get around reviewing it until now. So I don't remember subtle details that would be actually helpful to you, the reader, but I do vividly remember main ideas, and I remember that this place was undoubtedly a four star place, which I think is a very lovely score.
So I got an app and two small pies. The Calamari (Lightly breaded and fried to perfection with zucchini and banana peppers, served with homemade marinara sauce) was indeed lightly breaded, which is always the best for calamari. And I also love it when places put in the fried banana peppers. The deep fried flavor and the deep acid from the sauce really needs that nice tang from the banana pepper. Good app.
Their small pies are 12 inches, which are perfect for one person or for being able to get more than two varieties. I got the Extravaganza (Pepperoni, sausage, sliced meatballs, green peppers, onions, mushrooms and extra cheese), which is basically their supreme. Very well done. Just enough of each ingredient and their crust was pretty much perfect. Enough on the handles to get a good hold, but not too much to feel like you're eating a loaf of bread. And most importantly, when you do the pizza fold, the crust is able to hold up all the ingredients and you don't get the dreaded floppy tip. A sign of a good pizza place. Bravo.
I also got the pie, which on their menu, they say is their featured pie, the Upside Down Pizza (Provolone cheese, pizza sauce, crushed red pepper, fresh chopped garlic, finished with basil, parmesan cheese and extra virgin olive oil). Legit one of the best slices I've eaten all of 2020, top two for sure. Every ingredient shines here. The garlic is bright, the basil pops, and the red pepper makes itself known, too, in the background. This was truly unique and I recommend you get it.
Overall, I think this place was pretty great. Good pies....
Read moreWe’ve been coming here for years. One of our traditions during the holidays is to walk around Lake Eola and have dinner at Anthony’s. Like everything in Orlando, things are changing and not for the better.
We got to Lake Eola and it was packed. I guess they’ve hired a company to do concerts on Sundays at the bandshell during December so park was packed and we couldn’t find parking so we skipped Lake Eola and went to dinner at Anthony’s.
Took a few minutes to get sat at a table which was fine. They were out of calamari so we ordered cheese planks which only included 3. Wasn’t worth the price for 3 and they were mediocre- definitely not handmade.
We were planning on getting a couple of slices of pizza like we always do, but they no longer sell pizza by the slice so I opted for eggolant parm and my husband had meatball parm. Both were mediocre.
They also used to have a great seasonal old fashioned which was also gone so I had two glasses of the house Chianti which was the smallest pour I’ve ever seen. My husband had a regular old fashioned.
I’m not sure if they have changed owners or what but this place has gone downhill. We won’t be back again. Mark another...
