Read moreAlthough this park is beautiful and I used to love to visit it. I now will avoid it because several days ago I went there and I was hoping to take a nice relaxing walk around the lake with a friend. Instead every few feet I was stopped by people agressively asking for money or wanting to to convert me to their religious beliefs. It is sad to see such a lovely place become so dominated by intrusive and agressive people that won't leave you alone to enjoy a quiet afternoon walk.
As a child my mother used to take myself and a girlfriend to the Public library across from Lake Eola when I was in grade school in the 60's. Afterwards she would relax on a bench while we walked around the gardens. On one visit a Christian Evangelist approached us and told us we were sinners and we needed to confess our sins to be saved and had the two of us on our knees in the garden praying to Jesus to save us. We were around 10 years old. This tramatized me and scared me. Our Christian church didn't do this and I don't think people should go around traumatizing children and others and force their ideas onto them.
I haven't been back to Lake Eola in 50 plus years and I had hoped this type of behavior had changed so that people could enjoy the area without interference. Unfortunately the atmosphere there has gotten worse than ever and is dominated by agressive people aproaching others for money for Doctors without Borders and Christian Evangelists trying to convert people. I personally will stay away from here and find other places to take walks and...
Read moreI have always loved this park. Although very popular (and for good reason), it has many nooks and crannies to explore that have so much character. There are also a couple of bars and restaurants super close-by or practically right on the water for dinner and drinks. Plenty of art is also scattered throughout the park that can be observed and admired.
It is an excellent place to people watch, to enjoy the birds and wildlife, or to go running (or walking) miles around the lake that are approximately equivalent to one mile. If you run out of things to do there, try going to a play at the amphitheater, going riding on a Lime or other electric scooter around the side streets, or go paddle boating on the swan boats. There are even plenty of special events like fireworks and farmers markets that can be attended.
While you have all the above mentioned, everything is tucked inside a stunning city skyline, right in the center of town. The park is accessible from most parts of traditional downtown Orlando. It is also affiliated with Disney. That means it will continue to be family friendly, well-manicured, maintained, as well as give the public access to bountiful events entertainment...
