If you (like me) have been on a lengthy quest to find exceptional Chinese food in Orlando, boy have I got a treat for you! Last night, I discovered “Dimsum King,” a cheerful mid-size restaurant across from the Millenia Mall. With a broad menu encompassing American Chinese favorites alongside traditional Chinese fare, there is something for literally everyone.

I went in the evening and thoroughly enjoyed the family dining experience: steaming platters rounding our table on a ‘lazy Susan’ so that my family and I could fill our plates with whatever we liked best. (Every single thing we tried was delicious. Highly recommend the lo mein, the pan fried noodles, the fried lobster balls—they’re like lobster hush puppies—the stir-fried bean sprouts with garlic, and the dumplings. Any of the dumplings. All of the dumplings.)

Considering that it’s family style where every dish feeds 3-5, I was really impressed with how reasonable their pricing was. Not to say that it couldn’t add up if you gave into temptation and ordered everything off the menu, but for a couple of entrees and a few dimsum plates, I think you could comfortably feed 4 or 5 people for something like $65.

When I spoke to our server, he let me know that multiple chefs—specialists just for dimsum—come in early every morning before the other chefs and carefully hand-make every piece. As the name might suggest, ‘Dimsum King’ serves their dimsum all day, but our server told us that some mornings and early afternoons, servers with heated carts move between the tables bringing a variety of savory dimsum options directly to your table. Whatever you want, they pick up from the cart and hand it to you immediately. You just pick what looks good to you! (Trick question. EVERYTHING looks good, and smells good, and tastes even better.) I have already made plans to bring a friend and go back earlier in the day to get to try that experience.

In conclusion, I have been hoping against hope to find really good Chinese food in Orlando for two decades, and today I feel like I’ve stumbled onto buried treasure. A hidden gem. ’Dimsum King’’s food is fresh, hearty, and surprisingly healthy. Their atmosphere is family-friendly with a light, happy ambiance. Their service is terrific. And if you’re at the end of a long day at work, takeout is absolutely available (I checked).

Long story short—shortER, I guess—if you’ve had a craving for excellent Chinese, don’t walk to ‘Dimsum...

This is my first review and unfortunately it’s a negative one. As a traveler, trying new food is a must and this place was sure to please, at least that’s what we thought. At first, the hostess was very hospitable by offering hot tea to drink. However, after that it all went downhill. We weren’t asked if we wanted anything else to drink, as I was the only one who drank the hot tea in my party. We instead had to ask for water to drink with our meals. We then ordered. A family member who was not as adventurous as us ordered house lo mein while the rest of us ordered various dim sum entrees. The family member who ordered the house lo mein never received the lo mein. The rest of us who ordered dim sum received our entrees and us being polite, waited for her food to come out. It never did. As the frustration began to rise, over an hour had past, and not once were we checked on or asked if we received everything or even asked how the food was. About the 30 min mark we stopped a passing waitress, who was continuously arguing with her coworkers, and simply asked “could you check on her food“, since at the time most of our food had arrived within the 10 min mark. She then replied “we are very busy in the kitchen and we will have it out shortly”. Well sadly, no lo mein and cold dim sum. Now at this point, we had ate some of our dim sum we received, but it’s incredibly rude to eat in-front of someone who has no food. After the 1 hr point, we asked our original waitress where our family members food was and she replied “Oh, I’m sorry, I never put it in”. Now mistakes happen, but if she were to just check in with us, she would have known earlier and could have gotten my family members food out to her in a timely manner. The family member opted out of ordering her entree because the waitress also added that it would be a while before she received her food, even after waiting for over an hour. Despite the errors, the food received was delicious and I’m sure the lo mein would have been too. Let it also be known that even after what had happened, we still left her an average tip because it’s the polite thing to do. I wish this could have been a positive review but these errors could have been prevented with just a little more attention. One star for service, 5...

Dimsum King is better than almost all of the restaurants in the Mills/50 area of Orlando, which is saying a lot considering Mills/50 had all the best Asian restaurants of all cuisines. If you have the time, make the drive to Millenia and try this place - you won’t be disappointed! I visited here for the first time today (my friend from China took me) and it was the most authentic Chinese restaurant I’ve had anywhere in Florida! I’ve been to many places across Orlando (especially those in the Mills/50 area, as I said before) and I’ve even visited China before, and the food made here is right up there with some of the dishes I ordered during my China trip. This is a dim sum restaurant, so you can order many different smaller dishes and share with the whole table! In reality, the dishes are still quite big and it’s much better to go with a larger group - that way you can try more things! We got lots of different items from their menu, from multiple types of pork dishes, Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, live dungeness crab (cooked fresh by the restaurant), a whole fish dish, and a very unique house special Sichuan dish that had intestine, a form of Chinese spam, tripe, and some other ingredients - everything was so fresh and flavorful! I loved the spices and portion sizes! The dungeness crab and the two different pork dishes we ordered were my favorites, however the house special dish was still excellent, the whole fish was way better than I had anticipated (an expertly-seasoned white fish), and all the vegetables were cooked to perfection! Based off my experience - trying many different dishes at one sitting - I think it’s safe to say this is one of those places you can order pretty much anything and be very happy. The chefs really know what they’re doing. So, check this place out!!

This was my first time at this restaurant and it was an incredibly pleasant experience! The service was great. We were quickly seated and our server checked in on us multiple times throughout the meal. I also appreciate how the menu had a significant selection of both traditional Chinese dishes and Chinese American classics. There was also pictures and a description for many of the items, which came in incredibly handy for the more traditional dishes that we were unaware of. The food itself came out very quickly and everything was very delicious! Both types of dim sum that we tried were fresh and flavorful but shanghai was definitely my favorite. The short ribs are alright but definitely on the chewier side. The fried rice and orange chicken paired perfectly together and the portion sizes were great for the price. I also tried their red bean pudding for the first time and while the red bean filling wasn't my favorite, I did like the coconut jelly that it was surrounded by. There is plenty of parking near this restaurant which made it very accessible. It was also very clean throughout the whole restaurant, including in the bathrooms. I like the traditional Chinese motifs that the decor had throughout the restaurant, paired with elevated lighting fixtures. Overall a really good experience and we will definitely be back!
