I had the worst experience I've ever had at any Capital Grille yesterday evening on my Birthday. I been going to Capitl Grille for almost 10 years now in NYC and CT where I am from for the food and experience and most of all service. My waiters are always nice and attentive and provide a certian kind of service that keeps me coming back. Yesterday evening from the very time i was seated, I felt as if I was eating at a cheap chain restaurant. It was as if the waiter assumed that I am not used to good treatment or do not know what good treatment is but boy is she wrong. I have dined at the finest restaurants in New York City, in Florida and all around the world internationally. What happened with me and my young toddler son yesterday was unacceptable. I waited forever for my glass of wine. I was indecisive and I noticed that she didn't even offer to do a taste test for me so I can pick the best wine that suits my palate. She stayed away from my table for more than 25 minutes at a time. Many times I had to turn around to look for look for or think about where she was because I needed something. It was only me and my son I got there at 7:45pm and left after 10 PM for no reason other than my waiter was not attentive. When she spoke to me about the menu she kept on mentioning price as if I couldn't afford anything. I saw how she was much more attentive to other tables and how they receive their drinks a lot faster than me . When I was done eating I waited another at least 25 to 30 minutes for her to pick up my food and ask if I wanted to take it home. By that time the customer started started to have chest pains. That was already about 10 PM and and after that I hardly seen her. I had to call another waiter over to give me my bill and also told him that it is my birthday and I thought I was going to at least receive a cake.. That's when he brought out a cake for me and said Happy Birthday and gave me my bill all this time my waiter was 2 feet away from me And acted like she didn't see. I was treated horribly at this restaurant and I believe it was because I am a African Caribbean woman Who was prejudged on on my knowledge of fine dining. I wish I went to the other location a bit I would have had a better experience on my 40th birthday. But this restaurant totally ruined my dinner experience. That waiter needs to be retrained. She is awful. Maybe they should have a standard for the people...
Read moreIt truly disheartens me to write this review. On arrival, we were greeted with warmth and great interaction. We were seated and met our server Emely. I let her know upfront I had not dined in 2 years since my last experience wasn't great, and ironically it was at the same table. She was great, took on the challenge to make things great. She was setup for failure. The wheels fell off completely. The wood wall behind us was covered in dust. The ceiling vents above us were covered in dirt, not dust. Balloons left over from someone's party still floating around. We ordered iced tea, our first drinks tasted old (like it had been sitting all day). Then the tea brewer broke, and we couldn't get more. I asked for a Coke Zero, they were out of syrup for it - so a Diet Coke it was. The salads reminded me of something we'd fix at home, not a nice restaurant (but the bacon is amazing!). Two of my guests ordered filets, both medium push, I ordered the bone-in strip, medium. Well, one filet was over, the other under, and mine, which should have been the least done, was well done. Yes, I know, dry-aged steaks are often appear differently when cooked, but it was definitely well done. Not wasting food, I wasn't going to send it back. That was my mistake, as this steak wasn't trimmed well at all and a strip steak is a favorite of mine (over a filet). We were offered the manager, but if the kitchen can't get 3 steaks right, I don't think a second try is going to be different. Sam's Mashed Potatoes and the Creamed Spinach were both great though. I'm not a mashed potato person, but these rocked. Onward to desert, I knew it wasn't really going to be a desert, more of a tease (3 bites). We each had the chocolate cake, and each had a different consistency. One was as expected, the other two dry and undesired. I know it's Magical Dining, but 3 bites isn't a desert. On the way out, a stop to the restrooms, to find the ladies room was out of order, referring guests to the family restroom. This is a fairly new location, so to find it in such a state on all accounts, is shocking. Even the outside sign was missing a letter light.
I've had great experiences here since it opened, but after this, it has to be off my list...
