I made reservation to celebrate my father's 82nd surprise birthday about 1 month or so at this restaurant via Instagram and when I didn't receive a response, I call the restaurant to inform them I will need reservation for 30 people on 27th April to celebrate my father. The gentleman I spoke to that day stated he was going to discuss with management and would get back to me. I had two friends reached out to ensured everything was in order and they even reached out the day before and was informed that everything would be in order. They even told then that day a band would be playing. I was very excited as this would have been an unforgettable birthday for my father. The day of the event, someone contacted me couple of hours before to confirm headcount and where I wanted to sit with my party. I informed him we want to sit outside where the band would be playing. Upon our arrival, nothing was setup everyone acted it like this was something new that they had just found out. It took them over 45 minutes to try and figure out what they were going to do. My friends reached out to the co-owner to figure out where we went wrong. The owner contacted management to try and fix everything but management try to cover their screwed up and stated that I wanted the table a certain way that's why things are not ready. By that time my surprise was ruined because the birthday arrived together with everyone waiting for things to get arranged. As if that wasn't enough screwed up, they couldn't even provide us with two dedicated waiter to attend to us slowly. It took nearly 2 hours for food to start coming. By then the birthday didn't want anything to eat since it was already too late. We order 4 count wings for the children but was charged for 8 wings totaling $18 per dish. This place should definitely consider having kids menu. Management never once come out to apologize to the entire group, check up on us or even offer a discount for the inconvenience and their screwed up. There was no band after I promised everyone there would be either a band ot DJ or both. This was a very bad experience and messed up way to celebrate my father turning 82nd birthday. All 30 people in the party complained we even consider leaving but sadly our group was too large to get accommodations elsewhere. This business just lost 30...
Read moreOk so coming from an Afro Caribbean/West Indian background and growing up on curry chicken, peas and rice and plantains, I was expecting this place to be an upscale version of your local Caribbean West Indian food restaurant but we found a more like Bahama Breeze style Caribbean menu and not what we expected, however we were surprised by how good the food was. This is a "fusion" of culinary delights found all over the Caribbean.. a touch of Spanish, Hatian and traditional Afro Caribbean/West Indian flavors available! The chef is knowledgeable and cultured on authentic Caribbean dishes from many of the islands. Cheers to the very warm and friendly Chef.
I was thrilled that they actually offered the Virgin Island drink "Pain Killer" with original Pussers rum from the B.V.I. so the cocktails are bussing and they do offer a flavorful array of liquid refreshments.
Now if I can be honest, when you walk into the restaurant it's giving an upscale vibe offering even some photo spots that are Instagram and TikTok worthy, but I was expecting to see more Caribbean people or more afro Caribbean people but the service crew was mainly Hispanics and Europeans? Where's the melanin?? I only saw two people of actual color working there.? I am all in favor of being progressive But most of the patrons were black people or black Caribbean people so it would be nice to be served by familiar faces that are knowledgeable and authentic relative to the brand. It was much like going to a sushi bar and getting served by an African who's not aware of the ingredients. Not what you'd expect but ok.
The place has potential and the location is very convenient attracting a selection of locals and tourists visiting near by amusement parks and hotels.
I actually visited as a trial to appraise and probe, as it was suggested by one of the associates at our hotel branches. I arrived very dressed down, in fact the bumpiest Ive ever looked and I was treated with welcoming courtesy and friendliness.
Will be back with my crew when I look more like myself and will let my other social media friends know that this place is a hidden gem that's worthy of promoting.
PS..please at least add sweet plantains on your menu, not everyone prefers dry tostones! Add some curry...
Read moreThe jerk lamb and djon djon rice was delicious however, it absolutely was my last meal from this establishment. The service is lacking as per usual. I've repeatedly given the original location chance after chance because I hoped for the best for Kalalou and what Kalalou Signature meant for the Haitian community in Orlando and surrounding counties. After spending hundreds on cocktails and food my company and I decided to get hookah. We selected 2 flavors and received 1. 40 minutes did go by before I noticed that we had only received 1 flavor. I brought this to the servers attention and assumed that this was a simple fix however I was met with the manager after I had to go back to check in with the server on the delay. Not only did we not receive the second flavor but we also did not get to finish the hookah from our table. Donald who is the manager decided that an additional fee now applied for the second flavor that I originally paid for and never received. Although I explained what happened he felt that the fee did apply and mentioned that had I not approached him the way that I did that he would have simply given the second flavor. Donald, you are not a true leader nor do stand on principal where business is concerned. You are ego driven. Customer service starts with leadership and sadly you are lacking quite a bit. This was the last unpleasant experience that I will have with this establishment. The fact that I was allowed to walk away without receiving something I paid for is unacceptable. Leadership should really consider customer service courses and takeing notes from other places who actually provide the type of dining experience where patrons leave wanting to return. If you're only enjoy good food...this may be a place for you. If you're looking for the full package...look elsewhere because Donald stands on ego and this may kill the entire experience for you. NEVER AGAIN. Do...
