Food Review: Sunshine soulfood cafe/ Island Moon at Caribbean Sunshine. Finding this hidden gem was a bit tricky, but once you arrive at Caribbean Sunshine and head to the right side where it says "Island Moon," you're in for a treat. The friendly cashier greeted me with exceptional customer service, setting the tone for a great meal. The standout dish? Diri Djondjon (black rice)—absolutely amazing! It was so good, I completely forgot about my other sides. The rice was rich, flavorful, and had the perfect texture, making it a must-try. The mac and cheese was decent—nothing extraordinary but still tasty. The green beans were well-seasoned, offering a nice balance to the meal. Now, the real showstopper: the Haitian Stew Chicken. Let me tell you, the chicken was falling off the bone, cooked to perfection with a savory and tender texture. It’s definitely a dish to savor. Overall, I’d give this spot a 9/10. If you're in the mood for hearty, flavorful Haitian cuisine, Island Moon is highly...
Read moreCornbread Rice and Beans Greens Mac and Cheese and Turkey Necks The little bit of Turkey I had tasted ok . The rest I wasn't happy wit. Greens tasted like they need a wee bit of vinegar or something. Can't really explain the texture of the bread, some of the rice grains were hard and the Mac tasted like it had Velveeta mixed in with regular cheese.
Asked to not get tips...was given mostly tips the Cashier said it was wings and necks moved together . I said fine, just tell them no tips. After the fact she said sorry, maybe next time will be better and that it's hard to pick out tip. Tell me BEFORE you take my money that it's hard to accomplish my request.
Customer service is sadly a thing of the past. I would be ashamed to give bad food for good money. I would also be cautious because most people work hard for their coin and some wouldn't take kindly to the blatant disrespect . I asked to speak with the manager but she wouldn't speak to me so I had to...
Read moreSo the truth of it is, the place is located in a plaza, then inside of a Caribbean restaurant next to a clothing vendor and that is already too much going on. It was hot as hades in there. The food looked ok but the chicken was cold and soggy. They didnt have cornbread and I was shocked, how in the hell do u call urself a soul food plc and u run out of cornbread? They got 50cent boxes of jiffy at the corner store if u dnt want to mk it from scratch. The collard greens were doable and had a decent taste, the mac and cheese was pretty good, the cabbage on someone elses plate looked fresh but we didnt have it and the atmosphere was kind of busy but decent. They had ethnic music playing that was subtle and nice but man it was hot. The staff were friendly and allowed us to taste the greens bcuz im finicky about collards. Overall it was on but it was not soul food like grandma makes however, in a pinch it would...
