La Catrina Cocina Mexicana — Restaurant in Ormond Beach

I hate to leave this review. My family and I decided to visit this restaurant on NYE based on the reviews I read here. Not all were great but we are easy going, we respect other’s hussle, don’t give anyone a hard time, etc. The service that we received was horrible. As soon as we walked in the door the greeter had an attitude. He seemed young and not eager to be there on NYE (which we get) so we didn’t think much of it. Our waiter was “ok.” I guess the issue began when I notified the man from the kitchen that came out to bring our appetizer, who was not wearing an uniform, that the sodas we asked for were flat and that possibly the machine needed “soda.” We would take another drink possible after they added soda to the machine. The waiter came back to take our order and I asked if the other gentleman passed on the message about the soda? He said that we would need to get Jarritos instead. Which that wasn’t the problem, we like Jarritos, but he didn’t explain or apologize or asked to remove the flat drinks from the table. We ordered water and one Jarritos instead, I had to call the waiter again to remove the flat drinks from the table and he also seemed bothered.

We ordered an appetizer which came to the table pretty quick! The man that brought us the appetizer brought one small plate to use to divvy up the appetizer among 4 people. After the soda situation was “resolved” I asked for more small plates to be brought to our table. The man not wearing a uniform was very sarcastic when responding as he also seemed bothered by me asking for a few more plates. I asked for 3 more to be brought to our table.

The food was so-so. I’ve had way better. It is too pricey for the cheaply made food they served us.

At paying they charged me for extra soft drinks that we didnt have and were bothered when I asked for them to be removed from my receipt. Our waiter sort of threw the check on the counter for me to sign vs. handing it to me in my hand.

I didn’t leave a tip because they didn’t deserve it at all. In these type of situations i would normally leave $5 at least but the service was horrific.

After we walked out and were getting in the car I spotted the man who brought us our appetizer standing at the door looking at us wrong. He threw something inside a garbage all while looking at us. We were all very confused at his behavior. We did nothing wrong and treated them with respect, and care. I am still in disbelief at this experience.

I am not sure why this place has 4.4 ratings, I have been here twice and the restaurant itself is clean with a good feeling to it UNTIL you get seated and order. I ordered a steak super burrito with extra steak the 1st time and when the server brought it there was literally 3 tiny pieces of steak with a bunch of rice and other fillings making it look huge and delicious and probably would of been to a vegetarian 😋 I showed the server and they corrected when they replaced it, it was good, I was stuffed.

I went there a second time this week I ordered a different burrito that had a $3 upcharge for steak ...no big deal the menu made it sound delicious It came covered with threes sauces and all kinds of other stuff, I asked for extra steak (which I knew would be extra) and was told the 1st steak I added was $3 but if I wanted more than that it would be an additional $7 on top of the $3 because I would have to order a side. The burrito was already $18 plus the $3 I asked how much steak already comes on it and they said alot, I opted not to get the side of steak for $7, the food came and I was eating I was like this seems like alot of rice I went through the entire burrito and there were 2 tiny strips of steak a TON of rice and then some other fillings, I then heard the people behind me complaining about the same thing (portion size) on the filling of their meal, I don't know what they ordered anyways I was with the family tried 2 seperate times both times were non satisfactory, I didn't complain or say anything I just paid my family's $60 bill (2 adults 1 child) and bounced, this review is turning out way longer than anticipated my wife's food was the same as mine she order extra stuff and got a bunch of cheap food stuffed in. If you like paying a premium for rice,sour cream, etc (cheap things to stuff your food with) and paying an extraordinary amount for it this is the place for you, it sad when you go to a place like this and then regret not going to Taco Bell, we will...

I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED. I WOULD RECOMMEND STAYING AWAY IF I COULD GIVE THEM A ZERO I WOULD..

Myself and Little Wings went for dinner there. They sat us, brought us a menu, and asked what we wanted, we answered a Martini and a Vodka Tonic. The waiter spoke NO english except to say Margheritas only they had no other drinks. Confused and hesitant, we agreed to order one. They arrived and were so sweet we could hardly drink them and very little alcohol. Then I went to the bar to let them know about what we had received, and then I looked at the shelf and found they had every type alcohol on any bar. There was another gentleman there, so I explained how we wanted drinks that could be prepared by a simple bartender. Unfortunately, this gentleman spoke no english either. I then asked for the owner or management to discuss what was happening. There was a gentleman at the bar having a drink other than a Margherita. He spoke up and attempted to translate the problem I was having. They conversed for a bit. The guy at the bar said they did not know how to fix anything other than the Margherita, even though he had a mix drink/cocktail. He was told there wasn't any management there. They offered no reason and no concern to our purchase needs. The worst service ever.

MYSELF AND LITTLE WINGS WAS SO UNBELIEVABLY CONFUSED AND DISAPPOINTED. NEEDLESS TO SAY WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK AND DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND UNLESS OF COURSE YOU SPEAK SPANISH AND DRINK ONLY MARGHERITAS We were looking so forward to a special Mexican cuisine that night. SO DISAPPOINTED... CANT...
