The the layout of the TACO BELL DRIVE-THRU IS A SAFETY HAZARD, and I can't believe it's legal (from a health and safety viewpoint).
Should an emergency* arise, those in line are trapped, unable to autonomously exit.
Once you are in line—even before you are able to view the menu—even if you've decided not to order—you're trapped in that drive-thru line, relegated to inching along until finally moving beyond the pay and pick-up window.
This layout restrains people against their will, and everyone should be free to leave, at any time.
This no-exit-before-menu-viewing set-up usurps the time one could have spent acquiring food elsewhere and can force an "eat-here-or-don't-eat-at-all" situation. The following are just examples. Ideas. To get people thinking. They're in excess if the actual review. *Emergencies range from —the extreme, group experience (e.g. fire) —to simply part of being human (e.g. suddenly needing a restroom, realizing you've forgotten your wallet, your child is having a seizure) —to the complexities of the human condition (e.g. panic attack from being trapped), —to anything and everything, both imaginable and un...
Imagine a grease fire breaks out in the kitchen while you're somewhere in that line.
Oh, okay, yes—I hear you—just get out of the car!
Sure, if you're abled, you can make your way to your passenger or back seat door and exit the car on foot.
But, wait! You've got to get past the car seats...
And! Of course, get your toddler and baby out of those car seats, one on each hip...
AND! somehow confirm and keep close your crying 3-year old, who's afraid and needs you, but who, with one on each hip, you don't have a free hand for. BUT, you can do it, you can get everybody away from the area.
Yes! Good. Since you've no free hands, Big boy can leash Popper, but you've still got to get him out of his crate in the hatchback (guess you'll be missing that vet appointment that's supposed to start in 13 minutes)...
All the while, your mind, in crisis mode, is racing through a litany of... Every other possible thing. And you've been trying to grab the absolute essentials... such as your son's inhaler, critical medication, your identification... any financial access cards (or geez, you'll only have the $1.47 you scooped from the cup holder for some reason), and... what else? Oh, your mother would never forgive you! You can't leave Grandmamma's ashes just picked up last week (still in the car because you didn't know what to do with, yet)... And...
Whippy! Your toddler's security octopus. And they're trying to tell you you can't be here, and you have to move, but...
and, oh-my-gosh, the auto insurance information because you can tell, they're what?! Wait! And suddenly you're there, WAY over there, with everybody else.
And...?!
That's just an example of how it's not as easy as just getting out of the car and walking away.
I need to find somebody to talk to about...

We went to the restaurant because the wife was jealous that I stopped for Taco Bell for my lunch. So I promised her that I would take her to Taco Bell for dinner. We get there and pull into the drive thru, making sure to have cash since this restaurant refuses to accept tap to pay via the drive thru window. All their competitors can figure out how to take tap to pay but these guys cannot.
We pull into drive thru and we wait from 6:00 pm to 6:07 pm with no movement of the line. We basically had to twist and turn our vehicle out of the line. I was so mad I went inside to see what the hold up was all about. Just before I do that I see one of the employees, wearing a drive thru headset, taking the trash out, smoking a cigarette, during dinner rush. I wait for her to get back in the store.
Upon entering the store, I see nobody at the counter, to take my order. I look to the waiting guests, whom have already placed their orders and they all just shrug their shoulders. I see the lady I just saw outside; just playing on her phone at the drive thru window, not helping anyone. I peered around the corner and see three guys working; one on each side of the table, and one guy in back wheeling some sort of cart. I ask the guys if the four of them were the only ones there, and they all nodded yes. This indicated that there was no manager whatsoever on duty.
If you’ve ever read any of my reviews in the past you will know that when there is no manager on duty, YOU DO NOT EAT AT THAT RESTAURANT. There is no one there to check the quality of food going into prep, and the quality of food going out to the customer. You might as well as eat food out of the dumpster, you’d be better off.
After the 3 gentleman confirmed that the four of them were the only ones there, the lady just shrugged at me and said, “what of it.” I usually don’t engage the subjects of my review, but when she mouthed off to my question like that, I let her know which side of the wrong she was on. 1. I asked her what was she doing outside just now? After a response of “taking out the trash, what of it.” 2. I firmly asked her if she was out of her mind. Taking out the trash in the middle of dinner rush? Are you out of your mind? This apparently didn’t dawn on her as a problem. Especially the fact that she failed to wash her hands or take off the coat she was wearing to take the trash out upon returning into the store.
I tried to reach out to the Taco Bell number to address my concerns but apparently there’s no one there to take your concerns past 4pm pacific time. I guess they think that their customers only eat at Taco Bell during bankers hours. Needless to say I found a different Taco Bell to eat at. I even tried to get answers about this particular Taco Bell from them, but apparently they are not run by the...
Read more12/5/21 EDIT: I received an email from this tbell's (W Main and Drake) new management offering a free taco for a new review. Just gave this location another try. They didn't accept the free taco coupon I got in the email (doesn't expire until the end of the year, I apparently needed to print it out), they didn't have any Baja, and they wouldn't take the two a la carte drinks off our bill after we stated we didn't want anything else. If I could update this location to 0 stars I would. Drive the ~10 minutes to 9th Street. You'll probably still get your food quicker and it'll be correct.
I loved Taco Bell, ate there easily 5 times a week, even moved into our newest apartment partially due to its proximity to a Taco Bell. Now, they've removed the grillers, potatoes, mexican pizza, tostada, and all shredded chicken.
All while the quality at my local Tbell, West Main and Drake, consistently dropped. Really really dropped. Used to get big burritos, stuffed full tacos, and nachos that have some heft to it. Now, I'm lucky if I can get a large Baja and a Cheesy Gordita Crunch w/ no lettuce (the only two things taco bell has for me now) with only one mistake. The amount of times I've gotten a medium drink after paying for a large or gotten a cheesy Gordita that didn't have any spicy ranch or cheese is... Sad. At least 75% of the time. At least. It's been a rough year and it's just been made worse now being unable to eat at the one fast food place I used to love.
Since my first day of work as a Sophomore in Highschool I've loved and treasured your delicious garbage. 10s of thousands of dollars, hundreds of memories and uncountable hours loitering over the last decade.
But it's too late now. Today I received a medium regular MtnDew (not Baja or large) and a chalupa (not even supreme, just had cheese and lettuce). My order was a Large Baja, Cheesy Gordita with no lettuce, and a free chalupa supreme from the App rewards. And I waited in the drive through for 25 minutes before even getting to the menu and telling them I had an order from the App. Just to receive nothing I actually wanted
TLDR: Don't get Taco Bell anymore, wait for them to fix all of the damage they've done this year to their menu, and NEVER EVER go to this location if you can help it. Drive the 20 minutes to 9th street or Westnedge. They're still missing the good 40% of the menu that's been gutted this year but at least they'll get the order right every time. It really is worth it, bad Taco Bell is...
