I had the pleasure of visiting Colonial Kitchen for the first time recently, and I can confidently say it may be my new favorite breakfast spot in Kalamazoo!
From the moment I walked in, the warmth and friendliness of the staff stood out. When more of my family showed up than I had expected, one staff member went out of their way to patiently and graciously help me change tables so we could all sit together comfortably. That kind of kindness isn’t something you see every day.
Our waitress, Shauna, was a total gem—attentive, cheerful, and on top of everything. She even read my mind on wanting whipped cream on my pancakes! Millie even came by with extra hazelnut creamer (she noticed we were out) without me having to ask—such a small gesture, but one that really stuck with me. And it’s clear that this place is led with heart; Irene, the owner, has created something truly special at Colonial Kitchen.
Oh, and the breakfast? Incredible. I’m already looking forward to my next visit! Thanks for a great breakfast on Saturday June 14, Colonial...
Read moreThis place was a HUGE disappointment. The owner was extremely rude because a group of 6 of us walked in at 12:10pm. Apparently they close at 1pm on a Saturday. They weren’t busy at all and we were seated immediately and ignored till about 12:30pm to finally order. We could overhear the owner complaining in the kitchen that we were seated and that she basically wanted to go home and did not want to keep cooking past 1. Shocking but still we stayed. We got our food. Some was very cold and overcooked and we could hear the microwave heating up the other plates at our table. The food was overall not very good and very overpriced for being microwaved. We got our checks and found out that they ended up charging us a tip on each check because we were a party over 5. So for 2 people we paid $49 for 2 plates of breakfast and 1 orange juice and to be talked poorly about by the owner. Mind blowing. I will never come back to be mistreated and eat...
Read moreHonestly the breakfast wasn't bad but my husband ordered the French Dip sandwich late this morning and it was DISGUSTING. It was all bread with 2 sad, very dry thin slices of "meat". My husband called to complain and the girl on the phone was NASTY. "Well what's wrong with it?!" when he told her she scoffed and told him to hang on before hanging up on him. When he called back they answered and immediately hung up. From there any time he called back it was just a recorded message saying the mailbox was full. While the food in itself was an issue, the absolute immaturity of the staff and their lack of professionalism in handling the issue cost them a customer for life. I felt bad enough when you walked in the owner is on the phone with the bank talking about her financial troubles in front of customers I wasn't going to make a big deal but it's probably actions like this that keep people away. We'll...
