After hearing several positive reviews from coworkers my wife and I decided to give this place a try. We had some extra time around the holidays and figured we would make the hour log trek to see what this place was all about. We also thought this concept was great because it meant that everyone could be happy since the kid considers sushi a non-starter for restaurant selection.
The first thing we noticed was that we were the only patrons standing, waiting to be seated, or moving around the restaurant that were wearing masks. This is always a bummer, but it is something we have unfortunately grown accustomed to in this area (it is more rare that we are unexpectedly and pleasantly surprised when people are masked up). The more concerning part was multiple front of house, and sushi chef, staff had masks that didn't cover their nose.
After being seated at the sushi bar we ordered drinks. I got the cucumber cooler and a water. When the drinks were delivered I noticed that both glasses were dirty. Both were replaced by our waitress, but after this we appeared to have been written off as a customer and our service drastically declined to the point that we barely saw our server after that point. It felt as if we had been written off as customers because we had issues with the dishes, and we were left with the impression the server didn't feel like there was any point in providing us quality service because there was no anticipated tip in it for her. Luckily, or unfortunately as the case may be, we had already ordered by this point.
We started with the spicy edamame. For our meals: my wife got a BYOB and the eel roll; I got the salmon sashimi, the tuna SOTO, and the eel nigiri. All and all a solid sampling of the offerings.
There was no soy sauce available, it had to be brought by the wait staff, and since we were being seemingly shunned, the condiment was not offered or delivered until well after our food. And even then it was brought in small pre-poured cups giving me very little control on how I utilized the condiment.
The edamame was good, the spice was noticeable but not overpowering, I would call it a mild to medium heat level depending on the individual piece being eaten.
Everything on the burger seemed oversized, I am pretty sure the tomato was thicker than the burger itself.
The eel nigiri was standard (if under unagi sauced), while the eel roll was just bad. It didn't seem to taste like any of the ingredients included in the roll, just sort of a bland mush that fell apart. We were amazed that the same ingredients from the same kitchen could taste so drastically different.
The tuna SOTO wasn't much better, it was made with poorly pre-cut strips of tuna and crammed into the center of the roll. Both rolls were completely disheveled before they made it to the table.
The shining star of the night was the salmon sashimi. It was exactly what I would expect from any sushi restaurant (if that tells you about the rest of the experience).
Most of the sushi was pre-sliced and seemed to have been prepped before the shift, which is fine if you are a budget sushi house and present yourself as such. In short the quality did not match the price.
During the meal, and long after my drinks had emptied, I was asked if I wanted another water. When it finally arrived I found my third dirty glass of the night, and a waitress that had already disappeared.
The 4.6 star rating B.A.S.H. has certainly did not match...
Read moreSuper super expensive! I knew it was burger and sushi, but I felt like I should have been dressed up to be there. It was a booshie burger joint. Menu prices went up 2-3 dollars in 7 months from other pictures on here. There were $14+ burgers with NO sides. That's an extra $5+ sushi rolls were a little more than I was used to. My service was good, and the roll was good. The not so fuzzy navel drink for $6 was awful!!! Didn't taste any Peach. It was like drinking an extremely carbonated watered-down orange juice. I knew about the soda water, I just didn't know it was over half water with some oj. They didn't bother mixing it when it got to my table. I'm not paying $6 for water. I don't do it a concert in dessert heat either. But at least plain water is good. Watered-down oj is disgusting. The waitress saw it sitting there and never bothered to ask how it was. It was on the opposite side of the table, so it was obvious I wasn't drinking it.
I did tell her at the end of my visit how awful the drink was, and she asked if I wanted to speak to her manager. I said well I guess I can if they aren't busy??? I found that to be too much. So she talked to the manager and the manager took it off. One sip out of the straw, and I pushed it away. So that was nice of them. I wish I didn't have to bring it up, and the server asked me. I made sure when i was in that line of business to be observant of that.
Not even halfway through, she did seem a bit on the rushed side. When she asked about what to order, she started looking at her watch. So I could tell she wanted me out since it was a busy night and I was already sitting too long trying to decide what to eat. So that felt rude to me. So after my 1 roll, I just decided I would eat elsewhere, and that's what I did. So I probably won't be back, but if you want an overpriced burger and side or sushi roll, the food will be good. I will post updated menus for you guys. When you see the dollar signs by restaurants, it just gives you an idea. At least seeing prices is better to plan your price per person. That's what I look for.
Parking is street parking wherever you can find it. This place is NOT handicap accessible!!! I have a mother who can't walk well, so this is something I observe at...
Read moreThis was one of the best dinning experiences that we have had in a long time and it was in no small part to our server Emily W. After sitting down and looking over the menu B.A.S.H will certainly get more then a few strange looks from new customers. The Menu is full of original ideas that seem so far out there that ordering them is half the fun just waiting to see how this combination can possibly be good enough and then you take that first bit and you are shocked on how good that crazy combination really is.
First off we ordered Crab Ragoon which was crispy and filled with the crab mix with a sweet and sour sauce it was a great way to start off the night. We also ordered the Truffle Parmesan Fries to split with our main dishes. Sea Salt, White Truffle Oil, and Parmesan Cheese on hot crispy fries these are very good and it's one of those things that i put on the you must experience them yourself.
My wife ordered the Philadelphia Sushi Roll which is smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber. Fairly simple sushi roll but was well made and tasted very good.
I ordered the Twisted PB&J which is peanut butter, strawberry jelly, bacon and Sriracha. i asked Emily W about it and she said it was really good so that's what i ordered and Thank you Emily W. This Burger was one of my favorite burgers of all time. Sweet, spicy, savory and peanut butter how can you go wrong with that.
So just when we think we are done Emily W comes in like an up sales ninja and gets us to order Dessert which is a Fried pound cake stuffed with cinnamon and brown sugar ice cream, sweet cream sauce, Carmel and crushed pecans. This monster was a great way to end the night. I'm diabetic and it was worth the high blood sugar lol.
I love seeing restaurants step away from the norm and get creative and totally pull it off. B.A.S.H is a must try if you are anywhere close to Ottawa or like my wife and I we live and hour & a half away still worth it. I hope anyone reading this...
