I’ve never left a coffee shop in tears but, unbelievably, I did today. Stopped in for a treat while on my anniversary trip with my husband. Ordered a latte, half sweet, as I usually do at coffee shops. I’ve been to MANY. It’s my thing. So I know that usually syrups come 4 pumps in a large, making half sweet 2 pumps. My latte came out super sweet. I went up and asked the young lady who made my drink if she remembered to make it half sweet, because it was very sweet. She said yes, that she put in 4 pumps. I asked how many pumps normally go in, and she said 8. I said it was too sweet to drink for my dietary needs, and that normally coffee shops do 4 pumps, making half sweet 2 pumps, and asked if I could get it remade. She said no. I said I spent $7 on a drink that I literally couldn’t drink because they don’t do standard amount of pumps like other coffee shops. She said no. I asked if she was the manager. All this time I was very calm and talking softly so I wouldn’t make a scene. At this point she shut down and stopped replying to me when I asked to speak to a manager. Another woman heard and said she was the manager, and asked what the problem was. Before I could answer, the girl who made my drink jumped in saying the I was HARASSING her and trying to get a free drink out of her. At this point I was almost in tears, and the manager could see it. Yet the girl kept going on about how I was harassing her. Not even in the slightest was I harassing her. Since when did customer service become such a low priority?! The only glimmer of light here was that the manager listened to my concerns and agreed to remake my drink, but told me if I come back that I need to specify how many pumps of syrup because they do their “special recipe”. Sorry, no…it’s not a special recipe to double your syrup from other coffee shops…that’s just confusing. Worst coffee shop experience EVER. I highly recommend training ALL the staff in listening to the customer and trying their best to make it right if the customer isn’t happy. It’s not enough for these young people to know how to pull an espresso shot…they need to learn how to be respectful to the customers as well. Giving 2 stars instead of one since the manager was helpful and did a better...
Read moreThis coffee shop has so many different features to offer for a variety of individuals and his or her needs. It is very spacious, with a high top bar near the front that is enclosed with a window as one window, so to speak. This makes for a great street view and place to either do some people watching or just converse freely since it’s a, sort of, enclosed nook in the corner. They have a section of 4 black leather chairs that make for individuals who may come as a group or just prefer a cozy chair and want to kick back on their own and browse on their iPad, laptop, etc. or read the newspaper. Either way, it’s spacious and doesn’t feel like the person in the adjacent chair is too close. Everyone is busy doing his or her own thing. This adorable coffee also has table seating that can easily accommodate groups of 10 or even tables for two. It’s a rather unique feature, which allows the environment to be used for friends meeting up to work on projects or for a quick stop to catch up with the bestie! The snacks consist of quite a variety, all of which compliment the huge menu of drinks they have to offer. The snacks consist of scones, chocolate chip cookies, rice crispy treats and even gluten free lemon bars and other flavors. They have a “Flavor of the Day,” which is very impressive; I have yet to experience other coffee shops with as much variety and truly unique blends/daily favorites. The baristas absolutely go out of their way to tailor each drink to all individuals’ request(s). The music selection varies widely, but seems very fitting fir the atmosphere. At the same time, if the music is not what one desires, a simple pair of headphones will quickly do the trick since the music is played at a decent volume. WiFi is possible with a purchase of any item. The restrooms are conveniently located in the back of the coffee shop and are very clean. Parking is right outside or on side streets. No matter what, this coffee shop is a great place to lounge for a bit of rest and relaxation or to do some studying, group project, or to carry out ...
Read moreI LOVE Jeremiah Joe's (both locations) in Ottawa, IL! I have a complicated drink that I request on a near-daily basis, and I have found that I prefer this coffee shop over any others. The staff are very helpful and accommodating--and the drinks are delicious. The downtown location is re-made from what had long ago been Famous Dept. Store, and it is a thrill to still see the old logos displayed on the ground near the entryway. The downtown location is the perfect place to meet a friend for a chat, space out while watching traffic, or to read a book and relax, while the drive-thru location by the canal is great for when I need my coffee on the run. Many of the employees go above-and-beyond to be helpful and friendly--especially BRITTANY---she is the BEST. Always helpful, always friendly--she makes my day! Brittany's awesomeness in no way takes away from some of the other wonderful people who also work there, such as Karole, Karcin, Shelby, Emma, and Erica---(I hope I spelled names correctly)--as well as many others (whose names I am sorry that I do not know). Whenever I get to take a moment to partake of a mocha at Jeremiah Joe's, it is something I have looked forward to, and it's often the highlight of my day. HIGHLY...
