Went with my Brother, his son and my children. Wanted to have a good home cooked meal. Look no further, HiWay Restaurant. As soon as we walked in, the hostess asked us how many? I told her six, she asked for a few seconds to prep our table. I told her take a few more. We were seated almost immediately. Our Waitress ( I didn't catch her name), handed out our menus and asked if we wanted any drinks along with the water, which she was going to bring out to us shortly; we ordered 3 coffees, 2 unsweetened iced teas and 1 diet soda. She came back which we reviewed the menu and were impressed with all the tasty options. We ordered the following: 2 Hot Turkey, mashed potatoes covered in gravy, a side of cream of Chicken Soup with Rice. One BLT deluxe meal sans tomato's. 2 Travelers Hamburgers with Fries. 1 Taco Salad. Portions were not light and a few of us asked for doggie bags. We had no room for dessert! We stopped here for lunch on our way home from vacationing in Ohio. The restaurant is nothing fancy but it is clean and in good repair. Staff is friendly and our server was on point. It was lunch rush and we were welcomed and seated within 5 minutes. Our server acknowledged us right away and took our drink order promptly. I ordered the Cabbage rolls. ($9.95 special on Fridays) and it came with a bowl of soup, wax beans, and choice of potato. The cream of potato soup was homemade and delicious. The cabbage rolls did not disappoint. Portion sizes are large. My husband ordered a breakfast skillet and my son had the rueben. They both reported that their meals were great tasting. We are a family of 5 and and everyone left full for just under $40+tip. We did all have water to drink and our two youngest ordered off of the kids menu. Love the food. Love the restaurant family. Staff is so fun and friendly. Service is super. I've even seen them hold the door open for you when you come in. Food comes out fast and to perfection. Stuffed tomato with fresh cut veggies and fruit is sooo good. Ecspecially if your watching what you eat. Beer battered cod dinner on Fridays is excellent. Salmon is delicious. Liver and onions is the best in the Midwest. Sizzling Steaks. Chicken soup and other homemade soups available daily. Patty Melt and Rubens are yummmmmy.
