Chinatown Express — Restaurant in Overland Park

I decided to give this place a try when I saw their apparently inexpensive prices online. I was kind of disappointed. First, I would note that their lunch specials come with either 2 crab rangoon, 1 egg roll, OR soup. So if you want an appetizer as well as soup with lunch, you will have to order that soup separately. Once you do that their price is no longer as inexpensive as it seemed. First the positive. I selected an egg roll. It was chicken and fried perfectly. It was also large and tasty. Unfortunately, the good stops there. For my entree I ordered Mongolian beef. What I received was more reminiscent of beef with green peppers and onions with some red pepper thrown in. There were no scallions. The sauce was watery and not particularly sweet. The beef did not appear to have been coated and fried initially before the stir fry with the sauce. It didn't have the crispy edges you would expect to find in Mongolian beef. I think this is primarily a carry out place. I didn't find the restaurant to be particularly clean and two of the sodas on the fountain were...

The restaurant is only ok for carry out. I don't recommend dining in. Sorry restaurant owners. I want to like your place but I can't say I do. The people working there are very nice, very helpful, and seem to do a great job at filling carry out orders and getting the orders correct.

I have a pet peeve about eating off styrofoam plates at a dine in restaurant, seriously! That and plastic flimsy forks, on the plus side they didn't break when you try to stick the food, however the tines on the forks fold up or bend away from your food. Very difficult to use. And no chopsticks, that would be a great alternative but they weren't available.

The food is ok but the lo-mein noodles are sticky and slimy. The brown sauce is like partly set up jello. The rice was dry. The crab rangoons were tasty but kinda greasy. And the beef and broccoli was good but suffered from the same brown sauce and too much oil. The steamed vegetables were done well taste, texture, and color were all good.

The bathroom... well, avoid it if at...

Let me start off by mentioning I picked this "restaurant" because of its "good reviews" but immediately after receiving my order I noticed they missed one of my meals, so I figured I would just call and inform them of the situation nicely. The young man that answered the phone was very understanding and said that they would send out the missing order as soon as they had a chance. 15 min later I notice I have a voicemail of the same young man saying that he spoke to the female that left my order and SHE SAID that I NEVER mentioned a second meal, when i clearly repeated more than one time as well as made sure she repeated it too… so this establishment took their employee's word against mine A PAYING CUSTOMER and on top of that I call back to figure out whats going on and the female that took my order actually has the audacity to ARGUE with me… idk, I simply feel as in if I paid basically $40 for some rice and two $6 meals… then something must be wrong. I would never recommend this...
