Family and I have been enjoying Jose Peppers for the past 20 years. Started going to the location on 135th and Mer-Len (now 135th and Blackbob), we had become frequents at 143rd and Metcalf. We loved the fact that Jose Peppers was a local company and they treated their customers like family.
Over the past few years their wait times have continuously grown and with a waiting room of about 60 square feet there isn't much space to accommodate during the cold winters and hot/humid summers. During the last year we ate 18 times at the 143rd location and half of those times the total time from sitting to out the door was over 90 minutes due to slow service/kitchen. Food portions have reduced, but I think on one hand that is a good thing.
In December, we purchased a $150 gift card that included three $10 coupons that could be used in January/February (but we were assured they would be accepted for a reasonable time after that by the waiter that sold them to us). Felt it was a good deal since we are frequent customers (checked AMEX and over the past 26 months we've eaten there 41 times and spent $2600).
Today, March 3, I ordered carry out and brought in the coupons and our gift card (we'd eaten there a few other times earlier in Jan/Feb but accidentally forgot the coupons because their inconvenient). I gave the carry out cashier the 3 $10 coupons and our gift card to pay for the meal. The manager came over (short guy, red hair and beard) and asked who had told us they would honor the coupons after February. "The waiter who sold me the gift card", I said (can't remember the trained employee on your staff that sold it to me). His only reply was sorry their no good, would you like me to throw them away and use your gift card to pay for the carry out.
That summarizes what has changed at Jose Peppers. They've grown up and forgotten their roots. Customer service is no longer a cornerstone of their business. If one of your employees makes a mistake do the right thing and honor the promise that was made. Bottom line I was ripped off by $30 and the coupon in question were only 3 days past due.
This is now a second opportunity for Jose Peppers to do the right thing for a...
Read moreThis was my first time at this location. I was excited because it is one of my favorite restaurants and it's literally just a couple blocks from my new house. I like the newness of this location, but the food was absolutely NOT great. As far as the food goes, it was the worst Jose Peppers I have ever been to and I have been to just about every single one they have multiple times. The steak in the steak quesadilla was so salty that it made my mouth pucker and my friend was sick by the time we got back to my place. I couldn't even finish mine. I will probably need to smother it and sour cream in order to finish it. We mentioned the meat to the server and suggested she let the cook know. She apologized and was very nice about it however nobody else came to the table to even ask about it. We weren't looking for a discount or free food, just some kind of acknowledgement that the food was horribly salty.
I was also shocked that all they played was country music. Not even a mix. Usually restaurants will play a mix of different kinds of music or some kind of soft rock music. Now I understand that this is just personal taste, however I HATE country music. It gives me a headache, so I left with one.
I probably won't be back to this location. I am so very disappointed in the whole experience and that is a shame because it is so close to...
Read moreFood was great, server was the right amount of helpful. It's a Tex-Mex restaurant that is all over the city. This place or the place on Midland Rd in Shawnee is my favorite around here so far. I have visited here maybe 1-2x a year over the last 4 years and not really a "regular."
There is handicapped parking around the strip mall, the hosts or exiting patrons might get the door for you, but isn't always a given here, due to it being busy.
There is patio seating here if your party is into that. The AC was on full today, might want a jacket if you're "I like it warm" person. It can get mildly loud in here.
The strip mall this Jose Peppers is in, is off two 1-way streets going north and another going east. When leaving to go west on 139th from here you have to follow the parking lot thoroughfare/road South just past the bank and turn right and another right turn on Metcalf to the light. There is a way to go south on Metcalf but you have to follow the thoroughfare/road South past the bank till the road T-bones at an apartment complex and go right. Then Left...
