This is the second time we visited when driving through town. Not busy at all on Friday night.
My daughter ordered Lek Tom yum which is a noodle, hot which she said it wasnāt that spicy and she can finish it easily, flavorful.
My son got kid chicken fried rice which he liked and it was big enough that he had leftover. I wish they add some veggies in there, at least carrots or broccolis.
My husband got chicken cashews which is not authentic, a little too sweet but has lots of veggies in it. This is his usual dish when visited Thai restaurant so he is experienced, this is not the best one he had.
I got Moo ping and Thai papaya salad. Moo ping came in 4 sticks as appetizer, the meat is tasty but dry, most likely not made fresh. Papaya salad is very tasty and I really enjoy it.
Service is very good, quick and friendly.
Went back again after 1 week on the way home, I got a reply from my first review and feel like owner truly cares about his business.
Waitress who was there this time had great memory and recognized us from almost a year ago even remembered where we seated then.
I got papaya salad and moo grob pad ka na Thai spicy, both were excellent flavor and spicy as I like. Daughter got lek Tom yum as last time which she still liked but felt like itās more spicy than last time. My son and husband shared chicken fried rice added veggies for extra charge but worth it since they put plenty of veggies on it.
I hope they stay open for a long time, it becomes my favorite Thai place to go on our routine trip to visit family.
Update after 1 year, stopped on the way again and it didnāt disappoint. Tom yum noodle and chicken fried rice still tasted good and I tried Pork rib soup ąøą¹ąø”ą¹ąøą¹ąø very tasty with right amount balance between spicy and sour. Service was excellent as usual and very quick. It wasnāt busy in store but seemed to be busy with taking out. We definitely will stop here every...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI eat at Thai Zappz between 2-4 times a month, Iām a big fan of their food but I switched up my order today and got Tom Yum Soup, something I donāt get often. As Iām stirring my soup up, I hear something clanging around hard in my soup. I proceed to pull out this huge chunk from my soup. It looks like wood, snaps like wood etc. I call, and they say itās a ginger piece when it doesnāt smell like ginger or the soup, and Iāve boiled ginger dozens of times and never once had it reach this type of texture/consistency. If this was ginger root, it raises a lot of questions. How long does a ginger root need to sit on heat to cause it become so burnt and stiff? I got my order an HOUR after they opened. They assured me the Tom yum is made fresh every day but all the ingredients in it were rock hard or cooked to death. I just had Thai Zappz twice this week and was a frequenter of this business but the person I spoke to on the phone didnāt care about my issue and just argued about what it was, wouldnāt even go tell the cooks that something was wrong with the Tom Yum. After today, Iāll be hard pressed to return. This used to be a personal favorite lunch spot.
After the absurd and condescending reply, I am very thankful I reviewed as harshly as I had before. You donāt include stuff like that in customers food. āWeāll strain it in the futureā no inedible objects used for flavor need to be removed before serving. The lemongrass stalks and root were a majority of my meal, the few bites on tomato, mushroom and chicken donāt make up for it being mostly inedible items. Do better. Youāve lost my business permanently and I went there very often and never once had an experience like that until now, been getting food from there for...
Read moreBLUF/SUMMARY: About time I wrote this review - best Thai food in Kansas City metro area and was our go-to place when we lived there. Authentic flavors overall, but esp with the street food options⦠something that I have never seen here in the US since we moved here over 30 years ago.
DETAILS: We moved away from the area almost 2 years now, and we severely miss this place. The food was the best, and we knew the owners well. I owe them this review not because we are biased, but because it was really good food.
Growing up in Bangkok, frequenting the street vendors for faves like Bami Heng and Bami Nam (street noodles dry or with soup) and saving/spending my allowance on it⦠that was pure nirvana. I never tasted anything like it in over 30 years, except for when I or my family made it from scratch. This is the first place that actually cooked it just like it was back then. They have the right amount of crispy garlic oil, and Moo Deng (bbq pork).
Other favorites - like Som Tam (papaya salad) are spot on with the balance of lime, fish sauce, and Thai bird chiles. The Tod Mun (fish cakes) are spot on - again, also pretty rare to find at Thai restaurants in general.
My wife loves the Khao Soi - curried noodles with crispy tofu. Their yellow curry is also very good, my sonās fave.
They even offer mango with sweet sticky rice that we get every so often.
To Pi (owner) and his staff, you probably know who is writing this review⦠but thank you for bringing me closer to my childhood memories and putting me right next to the noodle street vendor anxiously waiting to spend my $5 baht while I wiped the drool off my face. We miss you and will visit...
